  1. Temp just keeps dropping. Snow swirling and drifting. Obviously model porn amounts in the days leading up were pathetically off, but the actual weather is pretty neat. If I can sit next to my Christmas tree on Dec 23 and watch mini snownadoes swirling out the window in a winter wonderland, it's not a bad thing.
  2. It's already below 0 on Monroe County. The wind chills are already 20 below. Pretty much happened as I expected it would yesterday. We'll probably end up around 2" from the "storm" here and then you once again will probably get more lake effect tomorrow than you got from the actual storm.
  3. Brutal outside. It was raining and 38 at 11 PM and now it's 5° and falling and the wind takes your breath away. Probably 1.5-2" of snow but it's a sea of drifting blowing and swirling.
  4. Interesting. Winters of the 2000s/10s were far snowier that the 1990s in SE MI.
  5. Yup. It was incredible. Even once the snow did melt in April the remnant piles were like something you would see up North by that time of year. And actually, although the main show started New Year's, don't forget snow was actually on the ground since December 8th. We had a horribly timed melt off down to patchy trace snow depth December 23rd through 25th and again the 28th through 30th, but we actually never were completely bare ground since December 7th.
  6. It does look interesting. But I thought we would keep everything in the other thread. Doesn't matter to me though.
  7. Nothing could go wrong that Winter lol (not thst there werent, amazingly, the usual complainers). We had a long duration 11" snowstorm December 31st to January 2nd, then a short duration 11" snowstorm January 5/6th. And it was only the beginning.
  8. Looking like some good banding of snow squalls into Saturday via Lake MI after the main event, but position of banding TBD. Either way looks like a fun but couple days. I probably won't get a liquid equivalent total til Saturday. Rain gauge can will likely freeze solid with flash freeze of rain to snow.
  9. I'd love to see ANYTHING other than heresay that backs that up lol. Ie stats. Last time. We all get hits and we all get misses
  10. Lmao. Actually we ARE talking about the start to this winter. That's exactly what was said to the new york city person who moved to Port huron. "Sorry for the slow start". Then suddenly we segway OT. There's a LOT more to weather than a big dog. And back to the original comment. Columbus hasn't had a 6"+ storm since 2015. Detroit has had about a dozen. We are about to get our 3rd Christmas snowstorm since 2017. Poor us.
  11. Idk. Its going to be a fun experience but I'm usually not a fan of drifty snow because you get bare spots lol
  12. Exactly. And mood flakes traces don't add in anything, so it's silly to say mood flakes are the saving grace. Everyone gets hits. Everyone gets misses. It's called weather.
  13. So then who in the midwest and northeast has had a good start to this winter? I must have missed it lol. There is no truth to that statement whatsoever. This has been an abnormally slow start to winter everywhere, and for someone from a different area they need to know that. Dec 2020 literally no one but MI was enjoying a decent start, and we were one of the best spots in Dec 2017. Everyone gets hits and misses. If it was true that one area was a void, it would show up in climate data. And it does not.
  14. They don't always end up Northwest. The sure-as-anything nw trend is so 2008. I'm liking 3-6" total. But of course drifting everywhere.
  15. Welcome! Sorry it's been a poor start to your first winter here, but should be fun tomorrow night I to the weekend!
  16. DTX even said snowfall amounts are lower confidence than normal for 24 to 36 hours out, I have a feeling they will raise amounts tomorrow and maybe go with a blizzard warning instead of the current winter storm warning.
  17. Getting excited for tomorrow night. Going to be an insane temperature drop as the rain quickly turns to snow with blizzard conditions
  18. Not sure on amounts but still Friday should be a fun winter day. Happy 1st day of Winter today all.
  19. The cold at the end of the polar vortex snowstorm was simply surreal.
  20. Well, we have had plenty of 6-12" storms where 25-30 mph winds give cute drifts...might as well go for the rare 3-6" blizzard with 60+ mph winds.
  21. That particular storm did. It also gave Chicago some near record snow depths in Feb 2021. But for the most part, Detroit has had the better luck the last 3 years.
  22. Hyperbole aside, a nws has a job to do. Dtx and Grr love advisories. They will issue an advisory when it should be a warning and an advisory when a special statement would suffice.
