No big deal here. Few rumbles of thunder and no lightning or wind to speak of. Picked up about .20" over a 30-40 min. period. Dud for my location. No way is that line not hitting Staten Island, the 5 boroughs and into western Nassau.
-
ALL of eastern Hunterdon County getting creamed and about to move into Somerset and they are severe warned on that pseudo bow echo.
-
Radar looking nasty over NEPA and soon to be crossing the Delaware into NNJ. Going to rock and roll for some locations. You can tell the atmosphere is beyond ripe just by the way the radar as blossomed over last 60-90 min.
-
.52" rainfall here from a pretty run of the mill T-Shower. No wind of any consequence.
-
Nice improvement to Drought Monitor over the last month....EVEN FOR L.I.
-
Totally agree. I knew it was over for my area when storms started popping to my south and east.
-
I know that is why I have been kind of dragging my feet on the project. I'm not capable of going up that high and I can't find anyone to do it for me. I really want to locate the wind equipment in the best spot and that roof peak with a mast would be ideal. Add to that I'm not technical enough to get the system connected and up and running. Looking for help !
-
Nice setup! Did you install those up there yourself?
-
Have the specs on a nice Davis package that I'd like but I'm not "technically" up to the task. Also want to install the wind equipment on roof as I have great exposure. Installed at ground level the yard is too protected. So would need someone capable to installing wind equipment on the roof peak.

If this overall pattern persists over the next 6-8 weeks COULD make for some POTENTIALLY interesting tropical threats along the mid and north Atlantic coasts. Those negative and positive anomalies over the mid U.S. and Canadian Maritimes respectively are not unfavorable to open the door to threats.

On the topic of PWS. Does anyone know of a person or company that can help install? I'm located in NW NJ area and would appreciate any leads for someone that can set a station up for me. Thanks in advance.

So sad and so sudden. RIP.
-
The area roughly along and left of a Trenton to NYC line is done with heavy rain today IMO. Anything additional will be showery and on the light side. Southern half of NJ and L.I. (especially central and east) still in line for some locally heavy totals.
-
Those radar echos are over producing what one would expect based on moisture rich atmosphere. Not your standard rainfall rates.
-
Thankfully these extreme rainfall rates have missed the concrete canyons of NYC of late. Rates of 2-3" per hour can cause some significant flooding for the boroughs.
-
On another topic...smoke making progress to the east. Expect hazy skies here Tuesday / Wednesday. Nothing more than haze though.
-
1.16" here early this morning around sunrise. Most of that fell in 30-40 min. Total for the month to date 7.87". Big congrats to L.I. crew this morning! You deserve it. Has been a long wait.
-
Soils are saturated around my area (NW NJ) so if these heavier 2, 3 or 4" totals verify I would expect some stream flooding across parts of Sussex, Warren and Morris Counties especially.
-
Rainfall yesterday and over the last week. Warren County NJ seems to take the prize for heaviest and most widespread totals.
-
Has already returned to the Northern Plains this morning. Nasty stuff. I agree with "SnowGoose69" that NW flow should not be persistent enough to sustain it for a continued period of time and effects here should be mainly hazy skies. Not expecting low level smoke or smoke smell this go round.
-
Had .26" yesterday morning and 1.37" in about 45 min. last evening T-Storm. Total 1.63" for the day and 5.67" for the week which is on the lower side of other obs. in my area.
-
Amazing light show going on to my south. Brilliant cloud to ground bolts and flashes.
-
Can confirm "Picard" report. Just made the trip from Sparta area back to Mt. Arlington and it was horrendous. Incredible rain rates, numerous cloud to ground bolts. All cars crawling down 206 and onto 80 using flashers almost my entire trip home. The ponding on 206 was bad in spots and even on 80 in a few spots. Will check the gauge in the morning but some spots along my route home had to have picked up 3" easy.

NJ Climate Summary for June. Nice section on the intense smoke conditions early in the month. https://www.njweather.org/content/strange-just-plain-strange-june-2023-recap-plus-first-half-2023-review

As it has been for nearly every event for the last 8+ weeks.
