We get a lot of mirage 10 day storms and patterns with potential even in good winters. Even the mirages are fewer this year, and we certainly have not arrived at any snow oasis. I think that paints the mental picture many of us have imprinted. This winter is absurd and so far outside the norm even a non winter enthusiast (a civilian) could be feeling a bit off center about the whole thing, let alone this group of profound loonys ( and I count myself as one). Skiers, snowmobilers, ice fisherman, outdoor hockey people, snowmen and snowwomen makers, sledders, all of whom now forlorn on some level. and the weenies are forsaken and burnt, quite literally.

I got 16 degrees here and enough wind to knock the top off my tree. Tree is going to have to come down since nothing is left of it now. No damage but concerned about the tree next to it. I am taking that one down as well.

Snow clearing got a lot better over the last 40 yrs or so. Where I grew up we used to be able to reliably ride snowmobiles on the country roads with anything over 6 inches for a least few hours especially if the snow fell late at night. We would have the country roads to ourselves. Nowadays - feet of snow can fall but hardly any of it has a chance to even make it to the ground let alone pile up.

I skied in -30 at Stowe in 2018. The wind so bad we could not ski at the summit, so we had to stay on the resort side and ski there only all weekend. It was bad. I had a charity ski race to be in otherwise I would have stayed home. I wore my snowmobile gear and that mostly worked. -
small white particle substances falling from the sky here at a brisk rate. Will revert when I identify exactly what these foreign objects are.

Not on the optimist train myself and not feeding that fire, but a couple of storms can get it to ~23. Perhaps we get one early Feb and then a March storm to close it out? Below normal forecast was a good call even if turns out high. Directionally correct.

Made me look. I was not going to look. Miller A type situation with a low out of the GOM. What could go wrong?

I think CC is messing with long range guidance. Forky said the cold vortex is smaller than before and that makes sense. I take issue with his thinking a lot of times on this topic, but what he said there jives with what I think re long range modelling.

Interesting 2006 is mentioned…in Feb NYC got an all timer. In fact, I recall Tip saying in the fall that while he thought the winter 2006 would be a dud, we could get a snowstorm that equals our seasonal totals in 1 go, which is what happened to me with 27 inches. Wonder if he remembers. Best call ever.

LP over Chicago then up the St. Lawrence and vaporizes. One GFS run of the last 4 showed something good. Of course there is a signal a few days LATER, the tenor of the season. Always late and never.

Yeah get some cheese and you can watch people make candles that smell like Christmas or soap. As long as you do those things stoned out of your effing gourd VT is great.
