December 2024 - Best look to an early December pattern in many a year!
WinterSnow replied to FXWX's topic in New England
I see. Thanks. I thought I knew my precip types, but turns out there's a lot more to learn. I previously saw this happen in the mid to upper 40s once and was just as confused back then. Interesting phenomenon. -

So... Uh, it's like snowing (or sleeting? It's falling like snow, but is more solid) outside here in central-west CT and it's also apparently 44 degrees at the same time. WTF? I thought it was supposed to be sunny today. Oh well, not complaining. -
November 21-22 Rain to Snow Disc/Obs SWNE Wake up to 6” ?

Woke up at 7 to a very light dusting (at best). It's long melted now. Still, was impressed as I didn't expect any accumulations at all when it never got anywhere near below freezing. Must have been a band of heavy snow... but I missed it because I was asleep. -
Blowvember - and not named for wind potential

Yeah, there's a reason I moved to New England versus any other region of the country. Although it's fair to say that snow, ice, and cold weather can be devastating under specific circumstances (such as losing power when the temperature is well below 0F - but even that's much more likely to happen in the Northern states in the center of the country like Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, etc. as they get the most frigid of temperatures), I'll take my chances with the cold over constant threat of tornadoes, hurricanes, and bad earthquakes. I can see why people are fascinated with bad tornadoes and hurricanes, but all I see is the devastation - the people who lost their lives, their homes, their jobs, family members, friends. etc. A 'boring' hurricane season is a good thing. Which this one wasn't for people in the Southeast, but was for us. I know that this puts me at odds with people here who the fascination takes over so I try to post sparingly to not be arguing with people all of the time. Come winter, though, I'll be hoping for the big winter storms that everyone else is here and will maybe fit in a little more. Speaking of politics, that's another thing, much prefer the politics up here. My former state often makes national news with its embarrassing politicians and the nonsense they are up to. It's a sad place for the worst of the worst to rise up and try to gain attention. -
Finally a seasonable day here in the 50s, but I wish it were cloudy. It has been sunny so much lately. Too much for me.

Seeing Michsnowfreak's post made me want to go back through the history of snowfall in Hartford. I was suspecting that maybe the mild, weak winters that you all have been experiencing in New England are actually kinda like the winters I used to have back in NE Oklahoma before the mid to late 2000s. So your weak winters would be like the better winters we had down there. LOL Nevertheless, I saw that Hartford only recorded 3 inches in the winter of 2001/2. WHATTTTTT?? That is bleak. That's like modern NE Oklahoma winter nonsense. I would cry if that happened this winter up here.

Still some pretty trees here and there, but wow saw quite a few bare trees in between Bristol and Hartford and lots and lots of brown.
-
81 degrees here. Ugh. There were many days in the peak of summer that were a lot nicer than this.
-
Some decent colors in Bristol and Southington, CT as of late, but sadly lots of brown as well. (apologies for the glare in the first shot, this was shot in a car - and no I wasn't driving!) https://imgur.com/nooLywd

80s in late October? No thanks. Take it back! If I wanted that I'd go back down south. And I don't. Guess I'll have to move up further north?? (my dad joked with me about this when I ranted about this to him earlier... but nah. I chose CT.)
-
No freezes here. I'm in those portions of northern CT that have no warnings or advisories or anything. No fun. How can it be that my hometown in the south had a Frost Advisory before here? (that's a rhetorical question, BTW)

This is like peak autumn weather, though - Cloudy, foggy, misty, upper 40s! It's a beautiful day to go see the leaves as the sun isn't washing their color out. I don't have SAD, though, so I cannot relate to the hit to one's mood. Sunny weather does not help my mood, in fact it makes my mood worse. I become more irritable. *sigh* While I'm glad I don't have SAD, I sure do hate always feeling like the odd-one-out in terms of this. Everyone else in my family loves the sun and I believe they have SAD.

I was just up in northern NH, not too far from Stowe, VT. Yet it was really warm when I was there. I missed out on the fun. D: The nights are getting cooler, perhaps even chilly down here in CT. I'm loving sleeping under the covers. No chance of flakes here anytime soon, though.
-
Awww. I'm to the Southeast of this in CT. (Is this what snowstorms in the NE look like now, too? ) However, I've seen forecasts for where I'm at with lows in the mid 30s, which could cause frost here?

September vibes - Last 90s for some, 1st frost for others

Woke up in the morning to wet conditions, but not rainy, just misty. This evening we've finally got some rain. For the very first time in forever. Kinda a gross, high humidity day. Just glad it wasn't sunny. -

I'm enjoying today. Mostly cloudy with a nice breeze. Very early autumn-like. Can we get some rain here, though? It's been dry for quite some time. Less torch, more rain. I saw there are some chances in the forecast, hopefully they play out unlike the past system. -

Well, hopes on either side do nothing, we just have to see how it plays out. -

It feels better today than it has the past many days. So glad we're finally seeing a bit of a cooldown. -

I'm looking into the Kanc Highway area, yeah. I'd love to go to Vermont, too! But the trip is several hours away and money is tight, so I can only see going up and seeing NH one day, staying one night and going one way or the other to see Maine or Vermont. Vermont is certainly high on my list to see, but Maine is a place I've wanted to see (and live in lol) since I was a teen, so I have to pick Maine first. -

Patches of yellow appearing down here in CT. Nothing impressive yet. NH members please keep us updated, I want to travel up to NH during or at least near peak! I never know when that'll be because every website I appear is all over the place on when that'll be. I'm assuming first week of October is good? I want to time this good because we might stay a night in NH, since it's a several hour drive up there to begin with, and then the next day maybe visit Maine as well. -

I don't see any day much if at all cooler than this in any forecast in my location, so yes it looks like it's going to last. Enjoy your "torch". As for me, I'm waiting for a cooldown. -

Ran into a large branch on the road today after the storm line went by. I didn't think that the storms had the kind of wind or anything that would cause that? That makes no sense to me. A very weak tree, I guess. -

What, you mean to tell me it hasn't already been fall for the majority of August? So many days in the 70s and some in the 60s. I'm loving it. I'm going to hate Summer so much less up here. -
Was up just north of Hartford most of the day. It was pretty nasty. Maybe not blazing hot, but ugh. Oh well, looks like that might be it for upper 80s and 90s for the season. Hopefully.

This sucks. I've never been an outdoor person, but I was kinda becoming more of an outdoor person after moving up here this summer. I've been enjoying the beaches. To think that late last week I was very close to going up to near Plymouth, but chose a beach in Rhode Island instead. I'm vulnerable (yay for arthritis at a young age) so I have to be extremely careful with things like this. I haven't seen many mosquitoes since coming up here and don't think I've been bitten by one, but this is very scary. I want to keep on enjoying beaches in the future.
