6 PM LWX Regional Weather Roundup has Frederick reporting a temperature of 102 with a heat index of 104. It may be time to get that thermometer out of the sun.

The deep moisture was pushed way south overnight, into southern Virginia. With the main front moving in later today there is a spotty chance for someone to get a localized shower or a storm. Odds greatly favor northern Virginia/Fredericksburg area and points south/SE ….. as opposed to those of us up in the Baltimore area. Although I do notice the local forecast here/Columbia went from mostly sunny …. to 30% chance of a scattered shower/storm later in the afternoon during peak heating but that could be as much for just covering all the bases in case anything isolated pops up. Consider yourself lucky if you’re north of DC and get some rain this afternoon. Not expecting much if anything.

Columbia: Another 0.97 inches with the second wave of rain last night bringing the daily total to 1.84 inches and a little over 6 inches now for July. AQI starting the day at a “good” 41.

Columbia: 0.87” over last hour or so with very light rain ongoing. Latest storm gets me over 5” for July.

I suspect we’ll be in and out of the smoke for at least a few weeks until the Canadian fires diminish.

On the east side of Columbia, the afternoon thunderstorm gave me exactly 1.00 inches. Counting a pre-dawn thundershower, I’m at 1.11 inches for the day and 4.39 inches already for July, not too shabby.

Eyeballing either side of 0.10” of rain in the gauge from a thundershower between 4 and 5 AM. Just enough to wet down things at the surface, air quality this morning for Columbia is starting off at about 186.

As insignificant as it is, it’s nice to finally see at least for the moment a few clouds surviving off the Africa coast.

Tonight’s a really pleasant night (here/Columbia) just sitting on a dry deck with a gentle breeze and 78° — who can ask for more? After lucking out with 3-1/4 inches of rain between July 4-9, the last two days have been frustrating watching radar; a trace at best for the last two days as of now. Also while sitting outside I just noticed a lower-level group of broken clouds moving east to west. Easterly breeze has picked up too.

Looks like a few more counties added to the severe t-storm watch. Distant thunder past 20 mins here in Columbia.

After 10 o’clock on the east side of Columbia and it is delightfully pouring outside right now, it looks like there’s a cell on radar right above the area, and growing a bit.
