  1. we have a fake one and ours is still up. Christmas used to end at Candlemas after all (Feb 2).
  2. welcome to the beautiful Eastern Panhandle!
  3. first homemade storm-related meal: biscuits and gravy. sooo good.
  4. indeed I could be. but I am simply being direct because you are an adult and not a child. and I also literally provided you with a list of videos.
  5. you just asked people here to stop what they are doing and and create a video that already exists just to cater to you. and I literally gave you a link to a list of videos to learn about soundings.
  6. https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=how+to+read+a+sounding+video https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=how+to+read+"500+hPa"+weather+map
  7. they show 3 different things. and not one of them will make a difference as to what happens during the storm.
  8. right? think of how cool thundersleet would sound.
  9. there was nothing to sniff out. models aren't predictions. they are simulations of what is most likely to happen with a hypothetical set of mathematical inputs. as the imputs get close to the actual atmospheric conditions, the simulations change and begin to reflect what will actually happen. tl;dr: Kuchera maps suck. stop using them.
  10. i'm not a baker (but I do have the stuff for an emergency batch of chocolate chip cookies if necessary) so I have loaded up with Girl Scout cookies. but I do love to cook and am set to make some post roast and a crown pork rib roast.
  11. we are hoping/planning to retire someplace warm, but will keep the option of coming back to DC for big snowstorms because they're just more fun in places where they are rarer.
  12. not clskinsfan but here in the EP: the Hampton Inn just outside town has good reviews, and you can walk to restaurants and a grocery store. we've stayed in Hilton Home2 Suites elsewhere and they have kitchens. it's in the same shopping center as the Hampton Inn. there's an inn in town and you can walk to restaurants and our locally-sourced grocery store but I don't know what will actually open on Sunday/Monday. but there will be great photo ops of the old part of town. my husband is recovering from emergency surgery (a great Christmas!! not) and is doing well, so we can't have guests right now. and of course the storm could shift away from us too.
  13. I needed some stuff from Costco and it was much more crowded than usual. and grocery pick up slots for tomorrow are selling out early. and dinner is Costco beef brisket burnt ends. pretty good.
  14. i'm going to shut all the blinds and curtains as soon as it starts because it will melt eventually and so the start of any storm is the end of any enjoyment. and yes I am referencing a real post that was made in this community before a previous big snow.
  15. fake snow is serious business.
  16. a low of 5 which makes it the coldest night so far this winter. currently 7.
  17. I still want a sleet bomb storm with thunder.
