Models seem to be juicing up a bit for the Saturday snow. I'm predicting an overperformance.

I remember waiting at the bus stop in 8th grade playing football before the bus arrived - when it was -21F outside and -40F wind chills. School wasn't cancelled for that...this was in Michigan though. Had to drive uphill to get to and from school in the those days.

To be fair he's basing that off the JMA forecasting phases 4/5. Assuming the JMA is right I agree with him that it'll be hard to overcome that hostile a regime. Maybe we get something big just as it flips, or maybe the JMA is wrong and it doesn't flip. We'll know in a couple weeks.

JB says MJO flips and goes hostile for the East in wks 3/4 and stays that way through February. Looks like winter's almost over. With some luck I'll get to climo if I can get another inch or so out of this weekend event.

Found this old pic of my wife looking less than enthusiastic after we completed shoveling 29" of snow off our driveway by hand in dec-2009. We were both 29yo then....didn't have a snowblower. Even using one for this latest storm was exhausting for the foot of snow we got, now being 44yo. Can't imagine how we did that three times in the winter of 09/10 for 2ft snowfalls.

Benson does NOT trust this light now that it has snow on top of it. Lots of gruffs and scrapping at it.

Went on a night walk and it's dumpin' out again! Now way we come out of this with less than a foot of snow. Benson approves.

Said on the news that Huntingtown was Jack with the highest totals for the storm in the area. Manifest destiny. Looks like some good snow incoming too.

We tried our older MSR lightning ascent snowshoes on a couple weeks ago and on both of them the rubner straps just broke right off, the rubber had rotted. They were 15yrs old but I was disappointed given how expensive they were. So I ordered us new pairs of the same snowshoes last week and they were supposed to be delivered today. Obviously that ain't happening and I'm bummed to have missed out on this. Hopefully they can deliver tomorrow.

Still snowing down in Calvert but it's really fine and not amounting to much. Wind is picking up now. The guidance, especially the euro, was pretty spot on for us so far. I measure 10.75" on my deck.

This was Benson's first real snow. He's postholing since it's about as tall as him.

This snow just won't stop, still snowing moderately, we've passed 10" and are making a run at 11" before it quits.

This blob down in southern Maryland is really dumping hard. I think I'll get to over 10" pretty easy before it moves out. Maybe with the wraparound this afternoon we can break one foot.

We just flipped back over to heavy snow for the past 30mins or so, so I'm Guess my were closing in on 9" now. Wind is picking up too.
