Heck, even in December 2009 after we got 29'" of snow after the first blizzard, within a week it was a melted foggy mess and there was no snow for Christmas. I've just come to expect crap winter weather for Christmas in these parts. I even spent money to build a mountain cabin retreat with the hopes of my first white Christmas in 20yrs. Maybe next year...I'm planning on cruising around the logging roads on my '69 Honda Trail 90 next week. One Christmas not that long ago my wife and I were backpack camping at 4k ft in Dolly sods....in t-shirts. The mid Atlantic just sucks for Christmas. Might as well embrace it and buy a hot tub. Counterpoint, two Christmases ago we were camping up on our mountain property and it was -23F in the tent and the windchill was 40 below. But still no snow.

Wow it's only 19F in Calvert now, guess I wasn't expecting it to get this cold.

JB says the MJO is correcting back to phase 8 and the NAO is going negative again and that the models are correcting to a colder look for the period leading up to Christmas.

My weatherbug app seems more accurate for the ten day than just looking at the GFS. Don't know how they massage the data but you never see fantasy storms show up on the app vs. the actual model.

As a kid I used to tune into TWC at 20min after the hour every hour in winter because that's when they did the 7day forecast. Those were the halcyon days of weather forecasting.

They're actually in hanging planters on my front porch so they don't get any protection from wind and and they don't get any precip either. They're were from last year's petunias that just reseeded themselves over last winter, maybe they are some cold hardy variety or something.

Idk what's going on but my petunias are still alive and blooming. It's not like it's been anomalously warm or anything. We've had hard freezes obviously. Strange.
