Only wild card for me is the North Atlantic water temps. You have to go back to around 2015 to find BN anomalies this time of year like we have now. Remains to be seen how that looks in a few months, but it's something. GFS control has the NAO negative for the first half of September more or less.
ETA - looking back to the 1980s I can't find an August with a similar north Pacific SST AN anom like we have now, it's almost unprecedented. 2023 had a sort of similar profile (yuck) but the SOI was completely flipped so I don't know if it's a valid analogue.
I'm watching the AMO. That sucker's going down at some point. Even before Erin it has shown cooling over the past year to my eyes. It's all coming together for a negative AMO and positive PDO....one of these years....
What's the deal with the Atlantic SSTs over the past week? They fallen off a cliff. Looks like it may be from Erin, pretty amazing to see how much of an impact a tropical system has on that.
Game cam reported 52F at 7am at the cabin. Looks like some fog was in the area as well. Mid 60s in DC and feeling pretty comfortable. It's pretty crispy here, leaves falling all over the sidewalks, not that it's helped with mosquitoes. 69F down in Calvert right now, I'm going to head back down that way after dinner tonight.
I'm staying in the city this weekend and the mosquitoes are out of control here. It's nothing like this in the swamps of Calvert or on the mountain. They just swarm out of the sewer grates and descend on you in the city. I'm lucky that I don't actually get mosquito bites, but that doesn't mean I like it when they bite me.
Been up at the cabin all weekend. Been perfect weather up here. Some storms came through a few hours ago and now it's cooled off and definitely feels like fall. I see on the radar some big storms coming through home back in Calvert. Need the rain there.
I've noticed up here on the mountain since this spring that all the foliage has these tears in it that don't look like insect damage. I wonder if there was hail this spring that damaged the leaves when they were still young? It's on all the trees all over so it doesn't seem specific to any one type of tree. Has made the trees look ratty all summer. Looking forward to figuring up the wood stove soon. Did homemade pizza in the AGA oven that was very good.
Ha ha my interior is clear coat maple and I was telling my wife that the last time we were there...you only get one chance to hang something on the wall, better get the location right.
I'm going to have to figure this out too. Luckily for an A-frame it's mostly just roof but the ends are board and batten stained pine so I'm going to have some maintenance I'm sure. Maybe I'll just say F-it and only re-stain it every few years. The more dirty it is the more it'll blend in to the woods.
I'll be out at the cabin fri-mon so hopefully I'll escape some of the heat out there. It'll be getting toward the end of August by next weekend so I hope the July weather is in the rear view mostly for the year.
Feels like October out there. So weird as they kept saying it was going to be hot again by the end of the week. Need some rain but other than that pretty much perfect.
JB already foretold this a couple hours ago. He didn't need all those fancy graphics though, just knowing hurricanes was enough for The Maestro.
I've got a good feeling, like last year I'm gonna go big on the snow totals contest.
JB hinting to a December to Remember because of something something late hurricanes, something something, cold summer period, something something, probably also undersea seismic but I didn't get that far. All that's left is to bring it home.
