  1. Idk, in Huntingtown we've missed every storm this week and haven't gotten squat. Trying to will the precip south but it's not working. Getting pretty dry out there.
  2. Nice pic, and yeah that's exactly how it's looked this week. We leave today so I don't think we will see any sun until we get up in the airplane above the clouds. It's back to reality in the oven when we land at DCA tonight. Acadia is nice but holy cow is it overcrowded. I don't really understand why. The facilities in the park are also woefully under designed for the number of people that show up. I might go back off season in the snow or something but I wouldn't return this time of year.
  3. It seems to me that whenever there is a SW flow up here it would bring in air off the water and sock the place in with most and fog. That's how it's been this week. And based on the extensive moss and lichen everywhere I'm figuring it's like this quite often at least when the water is still cool. I prefer cold and breezy when camping but this damp mist that never stops is the pits.
  4. I'm up camping at Acadia this week. Every time I go anywhere or do anything outside at all this year it's cold, cloudy with an onshore flow, and non-stop mist and showers. Every. Single. Time. Fuck if I went on a vacation to Mojave in July the gods would find some way to get marine flow off the Gulf of California to ruin the whole thing.
  5. Steady moderate rain in Calvert for a good two hours now. Looks like a ways to go to. Been a long time since we've had a dark, solidly rainy day like this. Occasional thunder too.
  6. No sign of any smoke down here in the swampy lowlands. We didn't get a ton of rain last night, less than 1/2". But it's wet and soupy out. Good moth weather.
  7. I just got my copies of the two "Northeast Snowstorm" books so I'm reading up on coastals while waiting for winter. Gonna manifest some good ones with my new knowledge.
  8. Just a couple years ago we had this (in SoMD at least). It was a lot worse and even mid day the sky was reddish and you could really smell the smoke. I don't remember if the smoke was from Canada or somewhere in the US though.
  9. This winter is gonna be rockin'!
  10. This is my favorite summer weather. Sunny Morning after an overnight rain, not too hot but still muggy enough to be like morning in Borneo. Smells fresh outside. Unfortunately box turtles love it too, and it was carnage on the back roads on my way to Annapolis this morning.
  11. WB is honking that the AMO is continuing to show signs of flipping. Will be interesting to see what this does to global temps and our winters once it finally happens. Should be good for snow.
  12. In Calvert we've gotten enough rain to be close to average but definitely not the excess some areas have seen to really reverse the long term drought. Hopefully it'll get whittled away though.
  13. About ten years ago I abandoned the lawn merry-go-round and let my front yard go back to nature. Planted a few trees and shrubs and now it looks like a maturing second growth forest. Very nice. Same with my back yard sans the septic field. I have a few small lawn patches left but they're mostly shade and have turned into moss which looks a good as lawn but doesn't need any water or cutting. Used to have to mow my lawn weekly but now I only break out the mower about twice a summer. Not sure how big lawns ever became desirable.
  14. The GW people got it all wrong. Instead of 150F wet bulb temps we're going to turn into the steppes with cold dry wind all the time.
  15. Miserable day at DCL. Gusty winds to 30mph and constant drizzle, rain at 48F. Went to cranesville swamp and swallow falls and had both places entirely to ourselves. Thank goodness for gore-tex.
  16. Another crap day in Swanton. Misty, windy and cold - 49F.
  17. Socked in with clouds/fog at 53F and rain at the cabin. Looks like a strong line just to the west of us heading east. We have a flood watch too. At least I don't have to worry about floods being at the very top of a mountain!
  18. We definitely busted high today, I was hot working outside moving stone. Usually it seems like we're lower than advertised though, we're at 3k ft elevation on the nose.
  19. Forecast was for 63F at the cabin today and we're already at 69F and sunny. No wind either!
  20. Low around 48F this morning at the cabin. Still windy with partly sunny skies. Didn't have much hope due to the weather but I tied out two female cecropia moths on my porch last night and actually pulled in a couple males.
  21. Got the keys to the cabin on the mountain, construction complete! Too bad the wind is blowing like crazy, I'm sooo sick of wind this year. It's relentless.
  22. The pattern has truly shifted. Coastals are back on the menu!
  23. Hopefully it comes true just like it did when the euro was predicting 7-10" area-wide 10 days ago.
  24. The pax river forcefield seems to be in effect from what I can see.
  25. Tropical downpour in Calvert. Heavy rain and thunder, very soupy out.
