  1. i dont trust the kooch and probably at least an inch or so of virga. 3-6" would be a good call for i-66 through DC. 2-4" up by Baltimore. Short pump probably hits double digits, UGH.
  2. Have fun! Dont often see a flood watch followed by a blizzard warning! Kids got softball practice otherwise I'd probably be driving up too!
  3. The camera is in night mode so it might be a bit more, railing looks like an inch or so. You also live up in the Northern snowtown area of the county. Us southy lowland lake-foke dont get as much as you
  4. Live shot from the pass:
  5. Hey if it makes the northern crew feel better, I only see a coating of snow at my place in western md too. This is a VA/DC special.
  6. This is why its dumb to call a snow day when its "too cold" or theres a bit of ice somewhere on some sidewalk in the shade. We've had 2-3 "soft" snow days this year which could be used for days like tomorrow. Oh well same here if they start using spring break days... I've already booked London so my kids will just have to get their education overseas that day.
  7. Yea it is coming down good. I just like the big fluffies. There are some medium sized flakes mixing in right now.
  8. Our snow is so tiny. Why can't we get some good sized flakes that really pile up??
  9. lmao those damn dodge chargers! You guys need a border checkpoint to control all the Maryland rifraff from clogging up your pristine unplowed roads.
  10. 2" in Ellicott City. Took a jebwalk, its really tiny icy flakes right now. Would love to get some fatties falling around here.
  11. Do people in Virginia know how to drive? This storm wasn't some sort of surprise. NBC4 is showing video of the mixing bowl and 95 south where it is all shut down. People stuck on ramps and no way for plows or tow trucks to get them un-stuck. Maryland drivers are bad but we never seem to have mass chaos complete gridlock of our transportation.
  12. So far this season all the ice warnings have been busts.
  13. Your tumbleweeds would spontaneously combust.
  14. Can always see that back edge moving closer
  15. For some reason we dont have enough laptops to give out to every kid. Elementary school kids dont have a 1:1 ratio. Also they said some kids dont have internet access. For being one of the richest counties in the country we surprisingly can afford little. I am a hcpss supporter but will call them out on foolishness. I also agree that busses will be back in the yard before any meaningful accumulation. 3 hours is a joke. I am sure we are closed tomorrow. Sorry to derail the obs thread. Currently cloudy and 28.
  16. Not when short pump is jacking with 11"!
  17. Had a brief sleeet/snow mix this morning at Wisp but otherwise just a cloudy and cold day. Maybe the ice storm will verify later.
  18. What do you think the roads will be like? Got a bunch of people skiing sat morning and didnt think this storm was going to be a big deal.
  19. Haven't lost power in Western MD (yet). But we have lost pretty much all our snowpack. Need a refresher asap.
  20. A whole bunch of NOAA websites are offline this morning, anyone know why? NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory https://psl.noaa.gov/ NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory https://psl.noaa.gov/ NOAA Earth System Research Laboratories https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/ NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory https://csl.noaa.gov/ Global Systems Laboratory https://gsl.noaa.gov/
  21. Bills didn't adjust. KC was jumping the sneak up the middle all game. At some point your coordinator needs to see that and call something outside. Or change your cadence and get them offside. Not sure why they went for two so many times. The first time I was shaking my head. Didn't work for the Ravens and the Bills were chasing points the rest of the game going for two. 0/3 I think? Bills D was gassed at the end, looked defeated after the failed 4th down at the end. Again, not sure what the BIlls called on that 4 and 5.. #10 was running into the backfield and totally out of the play. At that point its 11 on 10 and they completely wiffed on the blitz.
  22. I don't think there really is a source. Its trial and error. I don't walk out there unless I see tents and snowmobiles. The ice fishers will normally drill holes while they walk further out to get a read on how thick the ice is. This guy explains it pretty well: The ice isn't uniform either, so any sort of "report" would have to be very specific and updated. With the snow it makes it even worse because the snow actually insulates and there is a layer of slush under the snow and over the ice. Edit to add another video that shows different tools and explains the whole snow/ice/slush/ice layering:
