I think it is going to be tough to break 95-100 for the same reason we don’t see 100s in Florida often. The humidity is ridiculously high, which does tend to limit the high temperatures. I am very confused though by people saying this summer is not “hot”. It has been a very warm July statistically. June was cooler than the new normals, but around average from total historic temps. I am always boggled as an environmental scientist when people claim humans have no impact on climate. I always explain to my students, look around. Go back 100 years and you were lucky to see people owning one car per family. Now look at the world. We have gone from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 8 billion today, and everyone uses petroleum. It has 100% improved our living conditions like nobody could have every predicted, but it does come at a cost. As for those against biofuels and renewables, I don’t understand at all. Clean energy is just smart and will be cheaper. Former Southwest CEO Gary Kelly said the main reason they invest in biofuels is because it would be amazing to control their own fuel and not have to hope a war won’t break out. And then he mentioned all the great environmental stats from it.

I don’t know about real heat, but it would be nice to have a brief reprieve from the real dews!

We’ve all been brainwashed into having pristine lawns of a non-native species. There are ways to conserve though. Cut the grass long and help it develop deeper roots. Also clover is truly not bad. It is great for pollinators and stays green even when things are dry.

Yeah it is just crazy how such a short drive makes such a difference. Even through Putnam and Dutchess Counties.

Whatever happened to the people saying this summer would be lucky to see 5-10 90 degree days? One thing I've learned lately is to never underestimate the torch! Also kind of weird to see so many on LI wanting more rain, whereas here in the Hudson Valley everything is still near or above flood stage. Pretty crazy driving around the past few days seeing roads washed out, like completely gone.
-
They cover much more than LI. They cover all of the city, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Westchester, Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, New London, including northeast NJ. Orange and Rockland are in rough shape. Parts of the Palisades have been washed out.
-
Got one gutter unclogged during the lull, but this is absolutely ridiculous. The older I get the more I enjoy winter. No yard work, minimal bugs, and no flooding rains. Oh and you can do one of life's greatest activities, skiing.
-
Basement was seeping in multiple spots. This is terrible. Finally getting a break. I don’t think I have ever seen heavy rain last that long in my life.
-
Hot hot hot out there today. My 4 year old son who loves skiing but warm weather was saying summer is his favorite all winter but now has changed tune and winter is his favorite. Although he does love swimming outside so I guess maybe he will be like me and love winter and summer!
-
I mean I wouldn't mind 70s and smoke free. Right now it seems our options are comfortable but dangerous smoke or humid and rainy. I'll take the humid and rainy over the smoke filled skies. My son's camp cancelled outdoor activities today because of the smoke.

I’m really hoping for a complete pattern change soon. This dreary pattern is getting to me. I wish we could send the storms to Canada where they really need the rain.
-
Even if we stay in this current pattern we will be above normal. Overnight lows will run above to much above normal. While the story may not be daytime heat, it is a warmer than normal pattern because of overnight lows. The pattern is also showing some signs of breaking down. We aren't going to stay in this pattern for 4 straight months.
-
It really rained hard most of the day yesterday and especially over night in Putnam County. Just a day of storms training right over the area.
-
At the beaches yes, but that water… naw too cold.
-
Don’t worry come December they will show the stupid torch again. Sad face
-
You forgot to add the sarcasm tag!
-
Unfortunately if you look at the aqi charts they aren’t improving in the areas it looks like it should be on the satellite. edit: Albany, Kingston, Copake are all in 200+ to 300+
-
I honestly think the Yankees should postpone until tomorrow. This is not healthy for athletes to play in nor for fans to sit in.
-
So we want hot and humid now right? This stuff burns the eyes more than 92 and humid.
-
So our options appear to be cool and smoky or hot and humid. Hmm decisions decisions…

True our one month winter months those years. I'm just extra salty this year because I bought brand new ski equipment for the first time in over a decade. Ski areas did the best they could but it wasn't the greatest. But a bad day of skiing beats a good day of working any day.

I'm not denying any of that. Yesterday was downright cool for any part of the year up here. I was just pointing out that May and June lately have had these periods of cooler than average runs that really are not seen in our other seasons. I would kill to even have a 'normal' winter month at this point, even in our warmer regime. Part of the reason that makes our sub-forum so interesting is the diversity of weather we do see across the region. I'm in the northern reaches now of our sub-forum and April was not record warm, it was our 9th warmest and 2nd wettest on record. Moving from Tuckahoe to up here I can say that the weather is much different than the true "metro" area.
-
Against much warmer 30 year averages. It is pretty noticeable when we are routinely putting up +3 to +5 months easily then a rare +0.3 to even -0.4 like May. We haven’t had a below average winter month in quite some time.
-
I don’t consider March “Spring” as less than a week fall under spring. April outside of a really intense week was cool. And stats don’t lie. Spring is our slowest warning season. So no I don’t have the mind of a goldfish. But I am a climate scientist and yes spring is our slowest warming season. For more info: https://www.climatecentral.org/climate-matters/fastest-warming-seasons-2022 it is really interesting to see how this varies by region.
-
It is odd how cool springs are more the norm now while every other season torches. It would be nice to just be sustained in the 80s and low 60s at night. I’m sure we will soon have the triple H: hazy, hot, humid.
