It's a disaster there, Im not at home - at work in Charlottesville and of course its a deluge but I'm sure there is nothing in the gauge at home... radar this summer when it shows yellows in other areas it's a downpour but when reds pass over my area it's a few hundredths....
-
Can already see the tendency on radar, a training kind of line forming from Lexington to Afton - with basically nothing 2 miles to the NW of that...

Huh ? A flood watch ? No way somebody in Sterling must be drinking on the job ... Don't they realize northern Waynesboro is the 2nd driest locale east of the Mississippi ? Approaching 70 days now since May 18th with well under 2 inches total precip... Only 0.58 for July... willing to bet nothing really changes this evening...
-
Thanks ! It will only be a shell of itself when it gets there probably... Over in Cville for work. Where there was some 3 inch totals over here this morning...
-
0.16 today 0.50 past week 0.57 monthly
-
Dam it , so dam close to a shower complex we can smell that rain scent, but it may as well be in Amarillo... Maybe Stormy is getting some rainfall tonight...
-
Current status of the Moormans River - as it emerges out of the Shenandoah Nat Park in western Albemarle...

That radar look isn't matching the ground truth.. While it is damp between Waynesboro and Cville - I'm in Cville on my work route and the pavement under the trees isn't wet .. But I have to go down to near Petersburg in alittle bit - And I'm sure I'll see more rain down there than my yard has seen in more than the last 2 months combined...

2nd consecutive year we have gone through this, but this year it has been more intense it feels like...
-
And the result is in --- 0.22 this evening 0.09 last night 0.38 now for the month !
-
No idea, Currently at work over north of Cville...It was about a quarter inch here and a couple ctg lightening strikes... Nobody is home at the moment to ask..
-
Yeah I do believe that your backyard and mine these last few years are meant for nothing other than only growing summer cacti....And my backyard may be reaching the point of being too dry to even grow a cactus...
-
Only joint in Waynesboro that didn't get a good soaking earlier yeah the NW corner yup my yard.... 0.09 brings my monthly total to a pointless 0.16 On the other hand 2 to 3 inches fell in southern Augusta a few miles away which in return will help the South River which will help the Shenandoah a tiny bit...

Sitting at 0.07 for the month Have only had 3 events total since May 18th with more than 0.04 - 0.18 0.28 0.65
-
What's the local groundwater look like ? It has to be worse than last year..
-
0.01 today - Wow will actually get 2 full months since "May 18th " of one of the hottest summers in the last few decades with 1.26 total. Actually amazing and concerning - especially since this area also suffered severe drought for a large portion of last year... I know alot of the conversation on here revolves around the continuation of the big city snow drought along I95, but this prolonged precip drought in the agriculture region of the Valley is more concerning...

We never had a legit shot anywhere along the I81 developing desert..... 0.00 here Will likely remain at 1.25 since May 18 and we were already below normal since the end of January ... And as I type this we get our customary 2 second sprinkle... On the other hand enjoy Wy... spent a night up in Newcastle 3 years ago leaving western South Dakota driving into Montana... Beautiful area..
-
Yup , likely gonna be a gut punch for most of the driest area , just awful for the dam Valley...
-
I know the feeling, upslope usually spills over enough for me, but 10 miles west toward Staunton not so much... hopefully can get something out of this
-
Brutally awful for the Valley, upcoming miss on top of the miss this afternoon on top of basically every miss since middle of May... I would probably get some of the upslope in my yard from the spill over onto the western slopes which would be nice...
-
Driving back to my work building just past Pantops mt in Eastern C'ville, there was a bunch of ctg strikes off to the east , some appeared to be holding in place for at least a full second..

I live about 200 yards from the South River in northern Waynesboro, one of the main headwaters of the Shenandoah.. It's certainly way way lower than it normally is ( 1.25 precip last 7 weeks in my yard ) but surprisingly it dosent look as bad as the Rivanna River just over the mts in Albemarle, Charlottesville if you are using any floatation devices you probably are just going in circles... The James River in Eastern Virginia is okay but in Scottsville/ Howardsville in southern Albemarle coming up from Lynchburg - it looks awful, could clearly walk across/through it with no issues, which makes sense I guess since it's headwaters is in the central Valley...
-
Either way we loose out here in the Valley, I could probably do okay on the ICON since I'm near the western slopes... I might legitimately make it to 2 full months with 1.25 total.. Combined with this heat, wonder if the Shenandoah River could actually become a mere creek this summer or at least set all time records for low stream flow..
