Just left Charlottesville a hour ago on the way home from work - Jeep outside temp went from upper 30s over there to 43 on Afton back down in the mid 30s over here in Waynesboro...
One of the best winter counties east of the Mississippi---Only driven through there once and it was in the winter many years ago - very pretty indeed.......
Still in the teens, sitting at 19 degrees almost to noon.... Overcast and 4 or 5 inches of icy snow on the ground - definitely looks like we are somewhere between Montana and Alaska...
The Nov 2018 ice storm down here Waynesboro/Staunton/Augusta was extremely damaging... Listening to the booms and cracks and crashes - seeing blue flashes across the sky that night was unforgettable ... No electric for about a week...So much damage was done to trees with limbs sheared off that we didn't have much in the way of power outages for a few years....
Or with a backyard rim in the snow growing up... I knew I wouldn't have to chase the ball after a shot - it would just plop down in the snow... Frozen hands were a different problem but who cared as a kid...
Saw that in 2016 from the NWS point and click forecast down here for Afton Mt ... 24 to 36 for just that Friday night as the energy transfer occurred....
President's Day 2 back in 2003 , measured half inch of snow followed by 7 inches of pure sleet down here - in western Albemarle county then... We didn't get the huge snow totals like just to our north got...
Strangest 8 month pattern that I have ever seen down here.... Simply not a whole lot of real precip days this calender year but yet somehow into the 40s on precip totals for the year.... Would still be in the early 20s for totals for the year without Debby and the 2 weeks of tropical moisture at the end of Sept....
