  1. Dam this is taking me back to the June 95 disaster in western Albemarle... They getting slammed tonight too..
  2. Good God some of the heaviest rain i have seen ,measured since the 90s ... Torrential rain again just under 5 now ..
  3. Just under 3.4 so far , way more than the combined total since May 18th.. No electric , gusty winds even down off the mt, roads are covered with leaves and twigs and small branches...
  4. On top of Afton right now heading home from work.. Just sitting here for a sec.... WOW True tropical storm conditions, very high winds blinding rain...continual lightning..
  5. Yup been watching that, didn't run into any rain till going up Afton on 250 going to work... Of course raining solidly in Cville...
  6. Except never underestimate tropical moisture in the central Appalachians....
  7. With more than a hour left in today , I'm pretty confident that my daily total will remain at 0.00 drops Monthly total shall remain at 0.03
  8. Same bday as myself I see.. Happy early birthday Friday ! Always was fascinated with Camille growing up nearby, always looked for info and writings on the event... A few interesting facts from that night ... Rainfall is believed to have been 35 inches or more in spots in about 5 hours.. Davis Creek , a normal little creek was measured by geologists as potentially reaching 51 feet in one spot coming down a hollow.. Some people are still missing and some were found but never identified.. The weather bureau at the time said it was likely the maximum amount of rain that could fall in that amount of time in this part of the world.. The mighty James River coming up from Lynchburg actually stopped or backed up for awhile ... As the volume and power of water coming out of Nelson's smaller rivers was overwhelming the slower moving James for awhile that morning...
  9. Not much compares to the horrors Camille caused in Nelson County VA in about 6 hours back in 69 - nearly a years worth of rain in the mountains in the overnight hours.. At that point she was just a remnant tropical low but other meteorological factors came into play that night...
  10. A repeat of Camille in Nelson County ? Or Madison county in 95 ? We need rain bad but not another catastrophic event... LOL
  11. Hey another rain cluster that falls apart before reaching here , when you are now trailing our friend East Coast Npz you know you're area is a newly formed desert with no reason to plant anything in the spring/summer right now .... Seriously very little convective precip in the growing season here the last two years...
  12. 0.02 for the day 0.03 for the month 2.68 total since May 18th and that includes a storm last week that dropped 0.83
  13. Yeah didn't figure much of anything fell there again... Radar looked good as usual coming from the SW but as always this year - it fell apart leaving Rockbridge coming into southern Augusta ...
  14. Would be nice ! You still beat my yard - haven't had 3 total combined since the May 18th downpour , yard is kinda green alittle bit now thanks to 1 storm last week...
  15. Always Charlottesville I'm just south of town on my work route in Covesville headed back to Cville , nice sunny and hot..
  16. Very heavy wind driven rain crossing Afton going toward cville... Missed my yard of course by under a mile... Reckon I will have to deal with it again in alittle bit if it holds together - At work riding around cville now..
  17. Yeah it's a bit disheartening to see most of this week's predicted higher rainfall totals to not get much farther NE than the Blacksburg NWS coverage area at the moment....
  18. Our area of Eastern Augusta and northern Waynesboro most certainly needed those 2 storms last evening and they seemed to have also given the southern Shenandoah Nat Park and extreme western Albemarle a good dousing which was as dry as us...
  19. Got home from work & again anxiously checked the rain gauge like so many times before , knowing once again the radar looked kind of good earlier - which usually equates to a few hundredths here.... Literally stunned to see 0.83 By far the most rain since May 18th considering I hadn't come close to 2 inches total since then..
  20. Get home anxiously check rain gauge... 0.03 0.61 monthly total now
  21. They must have sobered up , flood watch canceled for Valley areas.... nice solid rain again Lexington and southern valley solid rain Afton to Charlottesville , but as always basically nothing from Waynesboro to Winchester ...
  22. It's a disaster there, Im not at home - at work in Charlottesville and of course its a deluge but I'm sure there is nothing in the gauge at home... radar this summer when it shows yellows in other areas it's a downpour but when reds pass over my area it's a few hundredths....
  23. Can already see the tendency on radar, a training kind of line forming from Lexington to Afton - with basically nothing 2 miles to the NW of that...
  24. Huh ? A flood watch ? No way somebody in Sterling must be drinking on the job ... Don't they realize northern Waynesboro is the 2nd driest locale east of the Mississippi ? Approaching 70 days now since May 18th with well under 2 inches total precip... Only 0.58 for July... willing to bet nothing really changes this evening...
