Most surprisingly this has turned into a legit stormy overnight down here.... Over 2 hours now of continual thunder and vivid lightning... Occasional rain about 0.4 now..

Waiting to see if this essentially non moving storm about a half mile to my south can drift north.... 25 minutes now of T&L with the smell of rain in the air , but no rain yet..

Nice... can definitely see a nice light show back your way... In fact could see lightning high in the sky from just west of Charlottesville near Ivy driving home a hour ago...

This Ravens team had it the last the last 2 years with a healthy Jackson for 17 games following injury filled 2 or 3 seasons by Jackson - but the playoff Jackson and Ravens have simply not been very good..... Can they get a 3rd straight healthy season by Jackson ? Odds say probably not.. Im a life long Jets fan going back to the 80s shootouts with Marino and Kenny O ... The Monday night game in 91 against the Bears ... The fake Marino spike in 94 - Couldn't sleep for 2 days if they lost a game back in the day ..Finally today I rooted against them - Same routine every few years hire a DC as a first time head coach in a offense league.. Yeah they scored 30 plus today... You can't make the playoffs in 15 seasons in the NFL you should be relegated to the CFL sort of like European soccer leagues...

Yes i agree... I know it was a above normal year for most places in the Mid Atlantic up until about 5 weeks ago but the moisture has completely shut off since then ... Even most of the wettest areas probably barely hit 2 inches since ... Most areas likely between 0.25 - 1.50...

Went to a outdoor concert nw of Harrisonburg last night in Orkney Springs near the WV border and it turned cold after sundown very fast... Very unique late August-temp wise..

Perfect weather in every way possible... except dry. Finished with 0.33 in August..

Absolute soaking in Albemarle/Charlottesville probably over 1 inch already...

Only 0.02 for the month to date.... following a big July.. Grass looks the best its looked in a couple months though, brown moldy spots disappearing... Streams coming out of the southern National Park in both eastern Augusta and western Albemarle are running very low though - especially since its August and everything is still green/growing and using water...

Looking at these 0Z models, except the GFS... That would be problematic to say the least.. A repeat of last September simply wouldn't be good.. Except for Debby in August ( some creeks were dry again 3 weeks later ) - the major drought kept widespread problems along the main rivers to a minimum although some local spots had significant smaller creek flood damage....

Going back to August 1st last year when the tropics with Debby started to change things down here... Despite some dry months over the last 12 months - huge difference from the previous 12 months.. August 2023 to July 2024 --- 29.25 August 2024 to July 2025 --- 49.47 Last 6 months 23.37 Same period last year. 11.25 Overall much better than the past 2 years....
