why are the SST so cold this year--- cold spring?

Is this an extension of the climate warming the most the further north you are that started with the Arctic warming? If so doesn't that mean the warming begins from the "top" down"-- that is the most extreme warmth will be the further north you go-- I believe this was well predicted by the climate models.

In Islip? It was cooler today here but more humid Cant use the word "cool" to describe this though lol I turned my A/C on earlier because it was more uncomfortable than yesterday was.

Knowing our local climate helps in knowing it could hit 90 even on the south shore before the sea breeze comes in. The sea breeze usually comes in after 1 PM and we usually rise quicker than the city does before that happens.

They struggled with Nassau County too it hit 90 here even on the south shore

Yup although I saw some PWS indicating it hit 90 as far south as Valley Stream around 1 before the sea breeze came in. As usual the western part of the south shore gets it later lol. Weird thing is how did Shirley way out in Suffolk County hit 90, aren't they right on the water? Never got anywhere close to 90 today-- what made it surge north earlier today?

Wow I wonder if we may see some global records with these extreme worldwide temperatures. I remember reading that April was the hottest on record in southern Asia. Do you have any global high heat record notifications, Don? Any that are 125 or higher?

tainted by high mins, I only measure heat by high temps and number of 90 degree days. it's why you don't see any global heat records coming out of tropical rain forests lol

Yeah but this isn't the "strong" kind of heat that lasts all day. Back in 2010 and 2002 and 1996, the heat was so strong that it would make it all the way to the coast and stay there all day. This time around it made it to the coast for like 30 min (when I hit 90) and then retreated. That's basically what I was asking you, why is it that in some years you get that kind of heat and then you have other times when the heat just touches the coast and then it retreats....is it down to the position of the high?

ah you missed the big heat in 2010 and 2011. Was up in the low 100s then all the way out to Suffolk County. We were over 100 three days out of four in July 2010 around July 4th weekend and then in late July in 2011 we did it two more times and peaked at 104.
