  1. Just pointing out that what some troll wants will actually put the forum into a slumber for a few months. And guess what happened today, my allergies are back AND I saw my first mosquito. I guess it's time to start spraying for both weeds and mosquitoes.
  2. well I know people who have it, and that's typical behavior. It was an observation, nothing more. What was way worse was making derogatory comments about Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder, don't you think? The guy is a total ass and it's time to call him out on it-- don't be defending him, you just promote his behavior more. So go cry me a river for being "dickish" to him-- he deserves a hell of a lot worse than that.
  3. Cold and dry is pretty annoying too. You brought some excellent examples from the late 80s and early 90s too. Was 89-90 up there for you too? 1979-1980 was horrible, and another one of those with October snow (all the way down to DC!) that did basically nothing afterwards. We basically had one shot to win the game with a HR and instead of hitting a HR it was a double and the runner was stranded on base (closest baseball comparison I can make to that blizzard lol.)
  4. You really are autistic aren't you? Don't make fun of two of the greatest musical artists of all time dude. Their other senses more than made up for whatever you think they lacked.
  5. Patterns typically have a limit on how long they last, I think he might be referring to return to cooler weather in March, how much cooler is the question. Blocking might actually be a detriment for central and northern NE.
  6. Do you guys even need blocking? From what I recall as you go further north it doesn't really matter whether you have it or not.
  7. there's a few that were worse 2001-02 is at the top for worst winters going by the WSI. 1997-98 is up there too. More recently 2011-12 makes the list, Octosnow notwithstanding.
  8. looking at the locals they depicted snow from around 6 am to about 3 pm. I'm on the south shore of Long Island so this area probably has the best chance of hitting the 2 inch mark depicted on the local snowfall forecast maps that were posted.
  9. any chance it could be an all day snow like let's say start at around 6 am and end at 6 pm? Snowing for 2-4 hours does nothing for me.
  10. So the colder pattern is coming back before March 10th Don? Maybe something like 2017 or 2018?
  11. and a daytime snow is an extra bonus-- on Superbowl Sunday! The last time we had that was in 2016.
  12. Don what are the chances that February can average at or above 40?
  13. 2 week cooldown, Don? When is that supposed to happen- around March 15th? On average our last measurable snowfall is around March 20th so timed well with the equinox. I think our first measurable snowfall averages around December 20th, timed well with the solstice.
  14. I loved April 2002 (and the summer that followed)
  15. Wait Islip had measurable snow in May 2020? or did they have a perfect 0 in February?
  16. Don there wont be a significant pattern change in the second half of February. It already happened lol, this is the pattern change the warm weather is here. The whatever we get Sunday is just a small gnat on the windshield of warmth thats already here
  17. this forum is going to empty out until the first summer super heatwave. No one cares about any other kind of weather here and they shouldn't Severe weather sure, but it rarely happens on the coast and the chances of it happening are so small in the spring around here that it's not worth bothering about until May. I think we'll end up in the political sub forum duking it out before the end of February lol. Now there's a place where the drama never ends lol.
  18. I think JFK made it to 55, did they not Don? It's going to be impressive to get three straight days in the 50s at the coast before February 15.
  19. They're usually very minor, we need to whittle down the analogs to the ones I listed above. 89-90 is a typical example, a warm February and March followed by a 1-3 inch snowfall in early April. 97-98 might represent the top end of what we should expect, 5" after a nearly snowless winter.
  20. Even early April... it depends on what you mean by snowstorm lol. Realistically throwing out the colder winters like 81-82 and 02-03 and 17-18 which had big snowstorms we can look at milder winters which ended with a snowfall, then there are analogs like 83-84, 89-90, 96-97, 97-98, 98-99, 99-00. All of these had a late season snowfall after a warm February and/or March March 1984 April 1990 (after a historically warm Mid March.) April 1997 March 1998 (after a nearly snowless winter) March 1999 April 2000 None of these were really big snowfalls (I think March 1998 might have been the biggest with 5 inches, so that probably represents the top end of what we can expect.) Outside of that and March 1984 (which was more of a mixed precip mess), the others were all 1-3 inches.
  21. Instead of irrelevant trivia like when zip codes came into being this is the interesting stuff we should be talking about, I've been waiting for some awesome results from Tokamak for YEARS and now finally here we are! controlled nuclear fusion-- here we come! https://twitter.com/i/events/1491539482973249539
  22. You can see a random minor event in any kind of pattern pretty much.
  23. We had the -AO in December and that did no good, this whole winter has been a tragedy outside of a couple of days in January. Ironic thing is if you live in Atlantic City you've had a great winter lol. Even DC and Baltimore did well.
