    So this is an issue of poor spacing with the highs? That's unfortunate, since the Pacific often gets mentioned as the main factor, but even when it's good, then this happens. This does remind me of the 80s-early 90s pattern when storms like this were very frequent. We even considered this the "normal" pattern back then.

    Yes, this could be the very unusual Carolinas to Maine snowstorm, haven't seen anything like this in years if it plays out to maximum potential.

    Yeah I was going to say it's somewhere around 65, but 60 also looks reasonable. I don't like 30 year "averages" at any rate, the entire climate history should be used.

    They should use the entire climate period instead of some small 30 year snapshot. I've always had that issue with these 30 year "averages" I think it's closer to a 65 inch average for Albany

    So basically west of the Poconos sucked for snow and east of NW NJ and the Hudson river also sucked for snow in this storm? That's a very narrow area that got good snows from this.

    The 12z has saner snowfall amounts lol, looks like less than a foot everywhere (but still decent 6-10 inches)

    We want this to be weaker correct? The weaker it is the less apt it would be to track inland.

    Holy ***** 20" in the Poconos from this far out on top of the 12"+ expected from the current storm is going to require a team to plow.

    If it's another coastal hugger it proves something I've seen.... once you get a coastal hugger early in the season you usually see a lot of coastal huggers that season. If you wanted a true change to a BM stormtrack, you need an extreme cutter first-- something like Jan 1978 OV bomb variety.

    It's going to be awesome for the Poconos I always spend the week before Christmas to the week after New Years there. New York is absolutely THE WORST place to be for Christmas and New Years. Too crowded and the traffic is horrendous.

    This is probably more elevation dependent than latitude dependent. I just got told to expect over a foot in Penn Forest township area too.

    Cant underestimate the impact of heavy flooding rains and strong gusty winds though, I expect some basements to be flooded and coastal flooding and some roads to be flooded out. That has more of an impact than snow does around here (Dec 1992 being a case in point.)

    The moon was bad for the Perseids too. Maybe with missions finally returning to the moon they can put some sort of dark covering on it to make it not so bright? Reducing its albedo would be a boon to star gazers.

    I would complain to the authorities if I were you. Maybe they can do something to him and fine him or something. I've had an urge to get rid of light pollution too, it has bad health effects and the ignorant think that these wasteful lights actually lower crime when they do not.

    My house in the mountains south of Scranton will see a lot more snow than Scranton will, Scranton is a snowhole.

    We're actually in the middle of the cold state of the PDO so a -PNA is expected. Just don't expect much snow in December and look forward to January when the Pacific doesn't really matter as much.
