wow we should just go by region then Canadian, European and American instead of all these ridiculous acronyms
-
wait whats the difference between the GEPS and the EPS? we just need to settle on one set of names lol
-
if the March 1992 analog works out we'll get a couple more around the middle of the month and right around the equinox
-
Right I dont go by the artificial DJF boundary either but by the entire season. I do think 01-02 was a more historic winter than 72-73 though because it was warmer.
-
Would this be more like 11/2018 or 2/2008? Both were good busts
-
97/98 finished wirh 5.5 though, the DJF is an artificial boundary created by humans, we should go with the overall season numbers It's why 01-02 was the historically bad winter here not 97-98

night time will help

That was when I wanted to dump liquid helium into the Atlantic I wonder how much it would take?

1717 - What was perhaps the greatest snow in New England history commenced on this date. During a ten day period a series of four snowstorms dumped three feet of snow upon Boston, and the city was snowbound for two weeks. Up to six feet of snow was reported farther to the north, and drifts covered many one story homes. (David Ludlum) This was the greatest snowstorm in the recorded history of the northeast-- any idea how much we got down here? That it was shockingly warm on this date in 1997, and at the beginning of April we (almost) got a big snowstorm!
-
Got to about 50 here too, cant argue with how nice it was
-
these are meh early 90s type of "snow"
-
the reality is 90% of the storms here are snow to rain, getting a big all snow storm is very rare I dont care for that kind of storm, but some do
-
you forgot 1982 and 2003 too
-
4 inch snowstorms can and have occured right through the first third of April. Check out March-April 1996 and March-April 2018 3 4 inchers in March 1996 and 1 4 incher in April 1996 (JFK) and we had multiple 4 inchers in March 2018 including one 8 incher and 1 in April 2018 that was a 6 incher
-
so basically a PNA plus or minus 0.5 would be perfect
-
Yup I don't care about double digit snowstorms this time of year but if we can get multiple 4-6 or even 4-8 inchers that would be awesome, that's what 1996 and 2018 were all about. One 8 incher and two 4 inchers would be just about perfect.
-
Sometimes he says really STRANGE things, I guess you caught him on a good day. It's interesting about the weak -PNA, we do know that PNA matters much less in March, but a strong -PNA will be bad regardless of the time of year.
-
why not just want a +PNA lol that would be the best outcome
-
whats so special about the post March 10 period where we are supposed to get very cold and possibly snowy? Does the -PNA finally go away? Does the -NAO block get stronger?
-
Very bright and sunny here, I guess we'll get close to 50 after all
-
Good sign...hopefully it gets colder for the end of week storm too!
-
This is one of our bigger busts and it's weird to see a bust on the colder side. When was the last time we busted by 10 or more degrees on the colder side IN WINTER?
-
Thanks the first one was the one with marginal conditions where Central Park got 6 inches and JFK got like 3 and the second one was the colder one that was supposed to give us 5-8 but ended earlier than expected and we only got like 3-5 and closer to 3 not 5. Was that second one after the equinox?
-
Can you research the two storms in March 1992 and find out the totals for both Central Park and JFK, I'm trying to remember if they were the ones I'm remembering, 6.2" at Central Park for the first one, first 6"+ snowstorm in years, but less at JFK, day time storm. Second storm was predicted to be 5-8 too, because it was colder, night time storm, but it was drier and we ended up with 3-5.
-
It reminds me of a few of the other storms like this-- December 2005 (though I think that was more east-west) and March 1992 (which may be an analog for this storm.)
