  1. Yeah because on the south shore we get nice wintry scenes even in April when it snows hard (1996, 2003, 2018). Imagine living near Times Square with all that heat and all those lights lol and traffic too.
  2. let's hope we can get another 2 foot plus snowstorm sometime this decade and you're here for it to make up for January 2016 lol As far as I can recall, 20"+ at Long Beach has only happened in February 1983, January 1996, PD2 2003, January 2016. So in spite of this new era of big snows, it still only happens once a decade.
  3. you do love your volcanoes dont you lol
  4. plus -PNA I think, those were some really good years on the west coast
  5. doesn't that lead to cold and dry a la the 80s?
  6. 40.8 doesn't sound that cold though Don. I figured it would have to average in the 30s. I'm surprised March 2018 wasn't that cold?
  7. Yes and this same thing in the summer sends the most anomalous heat into new england and southern canada and why we see TC tracking farther north closer to the coast too.
  8. This is correct, the -PDO was forecast back in the 00s when we went through our big snowfall period. The last time this happened was in the 50s. Back then March was our snowiest month too and there was an uptick in tropical activity along the east coast especially. It happens in 30 year cycles if I remember correctly.
  9. omg that fiasco is why I have such a bad memory of that winter! People don't understand why I like 2014-15 so much more but it's because of that storm and how cold February 2015 was (and March was also much better.) There was another storm....it could have been in February 2010.....where I remember Long Beach was mixing and Valley Stream was snow. It was something like 5" of snow here.
  10. I saw a 5.6" measurement on the PNS from there so just about right! ...Bronx County... 1 NE Fordham 5.6 in 0650 AM 02/28 Public
  11. wow so less than here-- and I'm just 2 miles north of Long Beach! The temps at JFK during the storm were 32-33 though and it was mostly snow, with a little white rain mixed in during the lulls.
  12. No I mean just for the northern part of the city, like if we had one official measuring location in each borough lol.
  13. I didn't hear any pinging, if anything it was a little white rain during the lulls. It kept melting when the snow got lighter too.
  14. Thanks, I take it that 2.0 from near JFK is our fellow forum member from Howard Beach!
  15. That actually reminds me a bit of 2010-11, was it also a La Nina? We were so close to going below zero in January. February 2015 beat it for cold and snow, but before then I think January 2004 was the coldest month here since January 1994.
  16. That December pattern was never going to work out, December is not a good month for this area for snow, March is better.
  17. wasn't February 1991 when we had the 30 hour surprise snowstorm with 8"?
  18. we didn't really get lucky in 01-02 our total snowfall was under 4 inches lol
  19. Does that explain why we dont get bowling ball events (west to east storms) and as many clippers as we used to?
  20. Wait I thought 2003-04 was VERY cold, especially December and January when we had those snowstorms-- Heavy snow and temps in the single digits and January 2004 was historically cold! In December we had snow with temps in the teens in early December that is unheardof!
  21. I saw pictures out of Van Cortlandt Park that looked like a real snowstorm lol Maybe that should be the location of weather measuring equipment too.
  22. Saw reports from the UK it was seen as far south as London! Pink and green!
  23. Thanks! I take it these are the final numbers? 7 am is nice timing because it ended here at 6:30 am lol
