  1. Looking for info on what happened to her, she was pretty young
  2. what time? hopefully we get to 90 first to make it a heatwave
  3. Number 3 here, the wind must have switched to the west later in the day. Tomorrow it should be a WNW land breeze, let's see if we make it to 100.
  4. Man I felt like I was under water today in all this humidity, even with a seabreeze it was over 90 here and the heat index was around 104. Tomorrow is going to be worse.
  5. Just picked up a new camera and I'm pretty excited about it, considering taking this one on my solar eclipse trip next April. It should be good for other types of astrophotography too. Panasonic FZ300 with a 25-600mm lens max aperture f/2.8 throughout the zoom range and 4K photo mode (8 MP at 30 fps for up to 30 minutes and 4 MP at 60 fps).
  6. Waters off Miami were around 102 at last check. Can you imagine getting a sea breeze and the temps still being over 100? Maybe we'll get that one day around here and JFK will be 100 degrees on a sea breeze lol.
  7. wow it's only hit 90 twice here so far (on back to back days)
  8. I believe the highest heat indices we've had here were 117 back in 1999 when we hit 100+ back to back days in early July. I'd much rather have high temps than high humidity, high temperatures get much more attention than high dew points do and summers are measured on temperatures not humidity.
  9. `1993 was actually much hotter for us and the summer of record from the 90s.
  10. You think that's bad, 99.4 is worse, lol, getting that close to 100
  11. I like these because the humidity is low, these are very high energy days!
  12. Haven't hit 90 even once this year, but the humidity is extremely uncomfortable
  13. I remember July 1999 and it was a lot more enjoyable than this-- dry heat is so much better than this soupy mess.
  14. July 1999 was absolutely amazing and either 1999 or 2002 was the last time we had a super heatwave (my definition = 7+ consecutive 90+ degree highs.) Tony, if I remember correctly, JFK hit 102 on this day too (or it was the day before or after.) That was back when we used to have dry heat, not this disgusting soupy mess we have now. Back then Long Island used to hit 100+ at least every other year too.
  15. The waters are definitely warm enough now so whats causing the storms not to make it east of the city down here?
  16. Don, what has kept Long Island so dry the last few days? The SST are much warmer now (in the 70s). Yesterday I saw there were big storms passing over Manhattan and today over Coney Island, but they somehow never made it to SW Nassau, how come?
  17. Wow it sounds gorgeous up there and you get to see the northern lights too, dont you?!
  18. Thanks RClab, I hope you're doing well too!
  19. No, by extended heatwaves, I have a specific definition of 7 or more consecutive days of 90+, which hasn't happened since the 90s from the records I keep. I don't think the summer will be very hot either, for a number of reasons. I don't believe it will be very wet either though (which is where you and I diverge.)
  20. I remember seeing satellite images back in August 1995 that showed the smoke but it was being blown offshore. Most of the fires were east of us out in eastern Long Island so they went offshore. I do remember seeing fires in NW NJ but they weren't as widespread as the Long Island fires.
  21. Poconos or Catskills? Close enough to benefit from noreasters and yet they also get remnants of lake effects streamers often enough, so there's both heavy wet snow and the postcard light dry snow that falls for days.
  22. I have a question for you Don, how come the air quality wasn't this bad in August 1995 when we had all those awful fires close by? This time it made me really sick and my blood pressure was around 190/115 during the worst of it.
  23. Extended heatwaves are really nice and don't happen much anymore. I love dry heat, not the humid wet stuff that makes me sick.
  24. Anyone who says that air pollution has somehow "gone away" is sorely mistaken, it kills millions of people every year and shortens life, especially near areas where diesel trucks go (mostly urban areas) by 10 years on average. Air pollution shortens life even more than smoking does. The toxic smog we had earlier in June made me really sick.
  25. It'll go by quickly, another nice long dry sunny stretch will begin on Tuesday and temps will start to warm up again by next Thursday and Friday.
