  1. Like the last two winters. Last winter, even worse than this one, we had two shots of single degree temperatures and no snow to show for either of them.
  2. Yep the rare combo of very cold and very snowy with snowstorms with temps in the teens in December and single digits in January with 40:1 snow! and my favorite snowstorm, the "pink snowstorm" with heavy snow falling as the sun came out at sunrise. You never saw this in the 80s, we had severe January cold back then but it was always dry.
  3. extremely cold and snowy, but it was a two month winter, December and January. Ideal in a way.
  4. it's nice to see the sun again today
  5. wow 1997 hit 70 and then we had the April Fools Day snowstorm more than a month later.
  6. yes this is what I'm thinking too- a very warm April and May.
  7. funny it recurred at a 20 year interval, although you could say 03/04 was similar to it. so a 10 year recurrence?
  8. I'd like to see some research into what caused this heatwave and why did it specifically happen in those waters.
  9. Right, this is completely uncharted territory.
  10. if the SSTs are the reason for it, it's not a cycle, because we are in completely uncharted territory with SST this warm.
  11. Humans are extremely resistant to change, this is what it comes down to.
  12. outrageous amounts of blocking and the kind of CONUS cold we rarely see anymore.
  13. I've heard spring birds all winter lol
  14. Do you have the map for the late April snowfall in 1983? I think that was more anomalous than this, JFK got 2" of snow on April 20, 1983! And was followed by our hottest summer prior to the 90s!
  15. wait is this going to screw with our total solar eclipse? it better not....
  16. we had 1983 -- 22 inches 1996-- 21 inches 2003-- 28 inches 2016-- 32 inches we also had both storms in 2003-04 with temps in the singles and teens
  17. how come the years cant be seen in these tables?
  18. but it happened in 1996 for Long Island? April 1996 snowstorm to 80 degrees? April 2003 snowstorm to 80 degrees? April 2018 snowstorm to 80 degrees? Which of these comes closest?
  19. What was the high on this date in 2018 at JFK? close to 80 everywhere?
  20. those 4 were some of the best of all time though its worth it for the misery of the other years
  21. in reality most of these go into Asia, not here
  22. I remember there was also a hurricane just offshore that day.
