  1. This may be the first time ever JFK will have more snowfall than Boston for the entire season lol.
  2. While I dont believe we will get anywhere close to seasonal averages, it's definitely MUCH better than last winter.
  3. wow JFK will beat Boston at this rate, has that ever happened before?
  4. For comparison's sake, are both Boston and Philly also in double digits, Chris?
  5. 2006-07 started as the warmest winter on record though and only flipped in February That was a colder stretch but the really cold stretch started with 2002-03. we took a break from the cold in a few of those years. between that year and 2014-15 2006-07, 2007-08, 2011-12
  6. no just lots of blowing and drifting today, it doesn't matter much anyway it'll be gone in a few days either way.
  7. I guess it could also be compared to the late 80s / early 90s or late 90s too.
  8. It was probably a little off just like the 7" from the previous storm. Not off by a lot though 8" for this storm and 6" for the last storm would probably be more accurate.
  9. and the Poconos, snow squalls all day up there!
  10. Week 2-3 sounds ideal as after the 21st our 1"+ events are very rare.
  11. We might also have chances in March, but with the way March is opening, it's going to be a long shot, freak event after midmonth if it happens.
  12. In the Poconos there have been almost nonstop snow squalls all day and there was a big pileup. Funny thing is, the snow squalls weren't showing up on radar for some reason. Here on Long Island we had light snow almost all day (up to 3 pm) and that didn't show up well on radar either.
  13. You have to be happy we actually got a winter this year though, so much better than last year. Hopefully this will keep the bugs in check this year.
  14. Maybe they suffer from very high dew points too. If you wanted a place to dump liquid helium to cool down the waters, that would be it.
  15. Thanks so much Don, so Central Park is the only official location in the city left to hit double digits on the season.
  16. Wow 99 degrees on an island in the Pacific is pretty ridiculous.
  17. Don, how much did Philly, Allentown and Mt Pocono get in the storm and where are we at seasonally so far at the park plus the three local airports? Is JFK the only one in double digits so far? Thanks!
  18. They don't report from a sea of asphalt though.... for example, JFK has been reporting snowfall totals more consistent with what's been seen in this area than Central Park, and on top of that both LGA and JFK have properly sited weather stations that accurately report both temperatures and wind speeds. The Central Park equipment isn't properly sited which shows after leaf out, it doesn't report wind speeds or temperature in line with properly sited equipment.
  19. C- for having two 4"+ snowstorms and snow on top of snow which is rare around here. I've given up on December as a winter month and so what we got is about as much as we should expect anymore.
  20. hopefully it's mild and sunny not back to the rainy crap again
  21. "average" is a magical number that doesn't mean anything, it changes from decade to decade. It's good enough to get a few snowy events and a few wintry weeks.
  22. You're never going to call it NYC are you, even though Forky made a thread about why it should be called NYC lol. It's just a park, it doesn't even properly represent the climate of the city. No one should take their temperatures, wind speeds, or snowfall seriously. None of them are ever accurate. Honestly they should just shut the weather equipment down and use the 2 airports for obs. Since they are never going to measure snowfall properly and no one wants to properly trim the foliage why not just ignore their obs or better yet, have the location shut down for weather obs? We have 60 years of data from the two airports-- it's plenty.
  23. This storm was enough dude, if it doesn't snow another flake this season, it'll still be a good season. It sure feels and looks like winter now
