  1. records across the board! 74 at JFK, new record (broke the record from 2010!) 75 at LGA new record (broke the record from the same year!) I don't know what the high at EWR was or if that broke the record too
  2. Besides climate change's innate issues there's a lot of other horrible stuff that can happen in a warming world, including the mass release of millions of years old dormant pathogens as the earth warms.
  3. Dad passed away in 2014 so I know how that feels. That entire year is a blur for me.
  4. The anniversary of the historic April 1982 blizzard, it would be lovely to see satellite images, weather maps and photos from his historic event!
  5. 1982 - An unprecedented April blizzard began in the northeastern U.S. One to two feet of snow fell across Massachusetts and Connecticut, and up to 26 inches was reported in Maine. New York City received a foot of snow. Winds reached 70 to 80 mph during the storm, and the storm also produced numerous thunderstorms, which contributed to the heavy snow. (Storm Data) What an amazing snowstorm this was, it would be awesome to see some satellite images and weather maps from this historic event!
  6. whats causing these periods to become shorter do you think, Chris?
  7. Yes that means JFK can get to 90 too! I hate the S to SE flow events and how frequent they've become. NW to W is my favorite wind direction in the spring and summer.
  8. Thanks this is fascinating, Don! This could also be used to assess the risks of other anomalous events-- like tornado outbreaks, high wind events, big snow or rain storms, etc.?
  9. Extreme Forecast Index-- is this an index that forecasts when record highs or record lows are likely to occur and doesn't default to climo like most long range forecasts do?
  10. wow 12-20 almost every day is over 80 and 19 is close to 90...thats when it hit 96 in 2002!
  11. Hopefully the -PNA pumps all the way up to Alaska. I have no use for cool soggy weather now.
  12. <3 yes hot and dry! We have been turning towards drier weather the last couple of springs and summers The old pattern is back!
  13. and it looks like it would be basin wide, not "eastern" now
  14. some really loud bird is chirping at 3:30 am.... what kind of bird could this be?
  15. so we might be looking at around a +1.5C to perhaps +1.8C el nino on the high end?
  16. hot summers followed by snowy winters usually happen when an el nino hands off to a la nina or vice versa
  17. I'd like to see 90s in April. 80s is still mediocre
  18. 100 with dry heat is perfect!
  19. 2002 analog may come into play
  20. 2002 had a much better summer and was also followed by a great winter...ditto for 2010
