  1. Don, how much did Philly, Allentown and Mt Pocono get in the storm and where are we at seasonally so far at the park plus the three local airports? Is JFK the only one in double digits so far? Thanks!
  2. They don't report from a sea of asphalt though.... for example, JFK has been reporting snowfall totals more consistent with what's been seen in this area than Central Park, and on top of that both LGA and JFK have properly sited weather stations that accurately report both temperatures and wind speeds. The Central Park equipment isn't properly sited which shows after leaf out, it doesn't report wind speeds or temperature in line with properly sited equipment.
  3. C- for having two 4"+ snowstorms and snow on top of snow which is rare around here. I've given up on December as a winter month and so what we got is about as much as we should expect anymore.
  4. hopefully it's mild and sunny not back to the rainy crap again
  5. "average" is a magical number that doesn't mean anything, it changes from decade to decade. It's good enough to get a few snowy events and a few wintry weeks.
  6. You're never going to call it NYC are you, even though Forky made a thread about why it should be called NYC lol. It's just a park, it doesn't even properly represent the climate of the city. No one should take their temperatures, wind speeds, or snowfall seriously. None of them are ever accurate. Honestly they should just shut the weather equipment down and use the 2 airports for obs. Since they are never going to measure snowfall properly and no one wants to properly trim the foliage why not just ignore their obs or better yet, have the location shut down for weather obs? We have 60 years of data from the two airports-- it's plenty.
  7. This storm was enough dude, if it doesn't snow another flake this season, it'll still be a good season. It sure feels and looks like winter now
  8. It's because they're too CHEAP to measure it, much less clean it up on the rare occasions it does happen lol. Yeah does anyone outside of there even care about that place? I doubt it.
  9. it's a joke but I'm always going to refer to it as Cheapskate, VA from now on.
  10. that was a widespread 8 inches for most of the metro in 1994, great event in the middle of the morning with thundersnow and 2-4 inches per hour
  11. not melting at all here we're getting blowing and drifting snow now
  12. and now we're getting blowing and drifting snow lol as the winds are picking up
  13. That 6-8 just barely made it into SW Nassau to right around here
  14. it snowed steadily here until 1 pm when the sun came out and then it clouded up again and started snowing again 15 min ago and now the sun is trying to come out again lol
  15. let's see if you get close to 10 by the end like Coney Island did
  16. Dan, was that picture from Oceanside, Hewlett or East Rockaway?
  17. super clipper like January 2005 perhaps? super clippers are clippers that become Miller B's Millenium storm was another one
  18. Especially on the trees, I feel like I need to take a bunch of pics before the wind starts up lol
  19. Thanks looks like we're close to 8 inches too, It's amazing when there is zero snow on the roads here lol
  20. Wow, that was another notoriously southern based winter when Monmouth County got 50" of snow that season and NYC got only 25" or so.
  21. JFK has cracked the 10" mark with the last two storms, February is the first 10 inch snowfall month here in at least 3 years. This is a C- winter even if we get 0 snow for the rest of the season.
