  1. December isn't really a winter month for us
  2. Right, this is NY not Burlington. NYC in December is similar to Atlanta in terms of big snows now. Don't expect anything and be pleasantly surprised when it does happen.
  3. Thanks so much Walt, I see both in these panels. 0.2-0.5 in one and 2.5-3.5 in the other!
  4. I remember a storm but I thought it was SNE centric probably the least amount here considering it's late March 4-5 inches maybe
  5. Chris what are the chances we repeat with another 4 SD -AO later in the winter (JFM)?
  6. What happened in late March 2013 when we had that extremely negative AO? I don't remember any big snows around then. 3/18-3/26 was one long duration extremely negative AO, that had to have set some records.
  7. There's that damn sun angle at work again. Oh well, that's why we take pictures right? To remember once it all goes away.
  8. Some news This is big news today-- how many decades are we now from controllable nuclear fusion and could this eventually be used not just for energy right here at home but also for space propulsion fuel?
  9. I wonder why that didn't end with a big snowstorm-- so many of our outbreaks have, especially when the outbreak ends in early February it usually ends in a bang-- any idea why we didn't have a big snowstorm to end the long duration arctic outbreak?
  10. Wow Baltimore has only had 3 total winters with 40" or more of snow-- and almost all 3 were in the 60"+ category-- one of whom is more than NYC has ever received in official recorded history. Is Philly's record more similar to Baltimore or NYC?
  11. Particularly impressive since it was with zero snow cover! That was also the last time JFK went below zero and NYC had a high temperature in the single digits! It was even colder than January 1994 and about equal to January 1977! Do you think this was more impressive than January 1977 or the below zero outbreak on Christmas 1980, Chris? Those are the other notable below zero outbreaks I remember. The latter gave us a small blanket of snow for Christmas.
  12. Not our area of course, but London has also just had a snowfall and roads are blocked up.
  13. Looks like you got the LI Jackpot, Ed. No concrete anywhere around here lol but still pretty on the trees, grass, cartops, rooftops, power poles, wires, etc. The sun is now starting to come out so this won't last long.
  14. That must be one of the lowest it's ever been.
  15. We've located your official snow spotter right there ^ doing a better job than the NYC zookeeper at least.
  16. Thanks Walt, only a T at JFK but I see 0.5" close to me on the south shore of Nassau County. You wouldn't happen to have a western panel for NE PA between Allentown and Scranton would you?
  17. Thanks Don. We have what looks like about a quarter inch here about 5 miles east of JFK.
  18. We had a double digit snowstorm last January, that should have been the last one.
  19. 81-82, 82-83, 83-84, 85-86, 86-87 off hand were pretty good, cold and snow in decent enough amounts Only one double digit snowstorm in there but a few MECS (8"+) in there too, including one in April lol.
  20. Right, the closest to the coast track for which I've seen snow (and in December to boot) was with the Millenium storm, where it only changed over east of Islip.
  21. Do you have an approximate date or week for which you could go out on a limb and say "This is when The Wiggum Storm will occur"?
  22. Right there is a rule of thumb often mentioned with regards to our area with regards to p-type.... Dec Inland-snow NYC-mix LI-rain Jan Inland-snow NYC-snow LI-mix Feb Inland-snow NYC-snow LI-snow I see this broadcast every season and obviously it's a vast oversimplification but just going by SST you can see why this chart is shown every season. Wow Binghampton snowfall avg doesn't change between December and January? How do these numbers (BGM vs ISP) look like for February, Chris? Thanks.
  23. He probably means this is the normal track for these storms this early in the season.
