  1. It’s the “I leaned it from you!” commercial from the 80s really…
  2. They’ve started a whole other thread - that’s where this discussion is located…
  3. The board sat up and chose “violence” today…
  4. Growing up in southwestern and then central Ohio I will confirm for you that the same excruciating misses on the margins occurs for midwest cutters as it does for us. So many times in the mid-1980s forecast 6-10 inch snows for me just east of Columbus would end up two counties north. We just don't notice for the reasons you said. As for whether the presence of cutters in the longer term is more stable, maybe? But there is a huge difference in a cutter at 7 days that is modeled through north dakota and at game time ended up in eastern Ohio - but we don't follow those swings that closely either TL/DR - WxUSAF is right.
  5. Ima gonna let it go. Safety first. I guess I am gonna expect some EJ style tree damage now though, gonna need to see reports of whole forests down. My expectations are raised for weather carnage.
  6. If this were a landfalling tropical storm or hurricane I would totally not have said anything, I guess my confusion stems from the fact that, and I am pretty positive about this, there have been literally at least several dozen or more high wind warning days unrelated to landfalling systems since I moved to the Baltimore area in 2009 and I do not remotely recall this kind of response to any of those other days. It is just...befuddling, that's all. I don't begrudge anyone leaving school early. Hell, I am pretty sure I just authorized closing our office at 2:30. But...it is still confusing to me, I guess.
  7. Dear lord, my boss just asked me if we should give thought to letting people go early today (apparently my status as default official weather person is now more official for the office). I don't even know what to say at this point. I am gonna say...yes, to be safe. I guess. I mean, I am still so confused.
  8. Do we all live on the Andrea Gail and I am just now finding out?
  9. Congrats to the local coverage of this event I guess as I have been bombarded with questions at work this AM about the terrible winds and should people leave early. I am so confused about all of this. We've had really windy rainy days before, right? Am I misremembering that? Was that my life on Earth 2 and this is the first time this has ever happened here on Earth 3? What even am I, on this 9th day of January, 2024?
  10. Dear lord, I am turning into @mattie g in real time. It's windy RAIN for petesake.
  11. this poor area is so starved for meaningful winter weather it will turn a rain storm into an event, apparently.
  12. terpeast wrote in the LR thread - I'm gonna go ahead and say...whatever happens will be the opposite of what we need. Pretty confident in that call based on...(waves hands around) - everything that has transpired with regard to snow chances up this way for about 8 years now. No matter what it is, it is bad for us. This time the storms will be too strong. Another time the cutter would not be strong enough. Another time they would be just right but a rogue shortwave would appear because a butterfly farted in new mexico in august to mess it up. Etc. Etc.
  13. Winter 2023/24 - "it got DAMN COLD for a few days there"
  14. You gonna be home before mid-January 2016?
  15. A co-worker - "Man, it's chilly out there" Me double-checking temp - "It's 48 degrees friend, ON JANUARY 8TH" Maybe it's chilly for Birmingham, AL. Maybe. This whole area is being de-conditioned to...actual winter.
  16. I look forward to/dream of getting enough winter weather at some point that the panic thread isn't one of the first threads I see when I open the forum..
  17. These last several winters we have been living a real life choose your own adventure book where no matter what option is chosen when you flip to page corresponding to your choice it is rain. Or cold/dry. I don’t even think the snow outcomes exist in the current choose your own adventure book we are reading.
  18. 37 and fog on my drive up to perryville the slower but non-toll way up US 1 for a poker tournament . The rivers and creeks were all running full after yesterday’s rains.
  19. I'm guessing none of the airports recorded anything beyond a trace?
  20. 12/7/23: T (maybe a T on 12/6/23 too but I was not home to see it/verify it) 12.11.23: .8 1/6/24: T (two hours of winter storm watch - yay! - rapidly converted to winter weather advisory - still ok... - then -- a little sleet and snow and a LOT of rain...sigh) Season total - .8 (already four times my snow from last year LOL)
  21. Can I make a circle around DC/Balt/ up to the Mason-dixon line and assume...not there?
  22. Having a hard time cherishing it, Millville...it has been really disappointing for quite a long time now up this way. This is yet another kick in the nethers. Can't even get pity snow to fall just to give the illusion of snow anymore. And I live in the Hereford Zone now. Glad you are feeling better.
