2026-2027 Super El Nino
LakePaste25 replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
While I may not agree with the Euro verbatim, it’s a perfect example of how a stronger Nino doesn’t always mean warmer. The August update increased the strength but went cooler. -
Answer honestly. Did someone cut a 350 ft slice in the reflecting pool?
-
Half an inch MTD for August, mostly later yesterday. Not that things are drying out ... the dew points are back in the low 70's. Would you like a slice of air? :-)

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a carry over el nino, like 87-88, in 27-28. But it's going to end early, and we're going to get a head start to a strong la nina like in 88-89, in 28-29. It will probably be a one-year la nina, but a very strong one. We'll get the 3rd el nino in the early 2030's, like 91-92 (but probably not with a major volcano). -
sick, gotta visit athens

OHC is still rising and is now at insanely high levels (>+3), especially for early August! @snowman19 -
Yeah that is tasty looking, that makes me wonder what potential that may have for us back here in the Shenandoah Valley
-
That range is .5-1C.

Even the Euro’s 3.4 RONI peaks at ~+3.4 in Nov, which would obliterate the current record of +2.5 set Jan 1982! Note that in switching from ERSST version 5 to 6, the record warmest has dropped at it had been +2.7 based on ERSST version 5. This prog is slightly warmer than the peaks of +3.3 on the prior run (July) and +3.2 on the June run: 8/2/26 3.4 RONI peak ~+3.4 in Nov: -

Euro seasonal a little cooler in the MA and SE. This is for the NDJ period. Can't compare DJF because July's forecast ends at NDJ. -

Monday could be a decent severe setup too. Going to be an active several days in the convective department. Certainly going to start seeing some increased flood concerns too. Time to toss those drought maps -

Probably. They might hear it on the news or see a headline, but overall I think us here are the only ones that care. The other 99% want to know why their App says 50% chance of rain today and it is sunny, lol. If I had a dime for every time someone brings up their hour by hour weather app...:D -
If we are that wet and DJF is only +1C, I’d do cartwheels. Especially if it follows Nino climo and most of that positive anomaly is December.

I wouldn’t dare predict a snowless winter. There’s no data to back that up. But I would place heavy bets on +3 or higher in terms of temp departures in the mean, locally. -

I am surprised we don't have at least a marginal risk for Friday
