mayjawintastawm
First freeze of the season this morning along the Front Range. Most locations bottomed out in the 30-32 range, 27 at my house (typical cold spot). Mountains look pretty and seasonal for a change. What does El Niño have up his sleeve? Some indications of a cold storm in about 10 days, but we all know where that's gotten us the last 15 months.
smokeybandit
26 for me. Now we just wait to see how many snowstorms get pulled from us 24 hours out.

Would be cool to see it snow along the front range in October, but I'm trying to keep my hopes in check. I'll take any precip we can get, and hopefully the mountains see more snow this month. Realistically it will take time to crawl out of this drought - I just hope to see continued improvement!

I think the red brick building in the foreground is a great place to eat but I don't know if it's that block or the one just to the right (north). Chinook
Anybody reading this from Arizona? There's a rare enhanced risk for severe storms in Arizona, with 5% risk of tornadoes.

frontranger8
Been an incredible start to the season for the Southwest, and much needed. But very dry outside of the sharp borders of the wet zone.
bch2014
All that red along the central coast will be wiped out when the map updates tomorrow - we got slammed with rain here in Santa Barbara County over the last 36 hours, with thunderstorms still popping up as the ULL spins. https://files.countyofsb.org/pwd/hydrology/Rainfall Reports/rainfallreport.pdf

Chinook
There have been many severe thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings, and tornado warnings in the Southwest. This is about the most tornado warnings I've ever seen for this area. Today, I am hearing reports on the news of water rescues in NM and CO. I haven't seen any tornado reports on the SPC web site.

frontranger8
Very wet fall so far for the Southwest. Second wettest October on record for Flagstaff, with another significant storm likely this coming weekend.
LVblizzard
Would be nice to get some snow in Denver with the next storm system. The only model hinting at it has been the Canadian. Every other one just has a bunch of rain. There are no obvious storm signals past this weekend into early next week either.

Hopefully it’s the start of a trend. It looks like it’s all dependent on how much phasing occurs between the two streams. If we get a full phase we get a big cold air wraparound with snow. If the phase is weak or doesn’t happen, it’s another upslope snow event with just a little bit of rain in Denver.
smokeybandit
Well true to form, I've missed several the bigger storms the last few years due to travel and I'm traveling out of the area Tuesday. So it'll snow.

Timing would be right, and if it's big in Castle Rock we benefit a bit from the upslope (house is at 5650'). 3 of the last 4 years it's snowed here just as the leaves were falling, which either helps or hinders leaf pickup depending on whether it melts before I try to bag them. We have two massive ash trees in the front yard.

Looking a bit too warm for Denver proper, but could be a big event for 6000'+. Obviously still plenty of time for things to change, but I don't see a good cold air source for this one. Excellent for mountains and Castle Rock down to the springs.
