They tend to be note overly reactionary. Updated outlook:

Many areas improved as expected. But they did extend the exceptional to more of the SAV area as NorthHills predicted. However, if the forecasts verify well, even this area will improve some there on next week’s map.

I’m not going to lie I think this map is overdoing the drought in upstate and SW mountains. All week the news stations were saying 12-15” in that area was needed in a month to end the drought and a large part of that area got 6”+ last week with more from a few weeks ago and some isolated areas in SW mountains picked up 12-15”! No I wouldn’t Think it would “end” the drought but with that much rain I easily would’ve expected some areas to drop to “moderate”. Unfortunately going forward looks exceptionally dry for the areas in extreme drought in northern half of NC so missing this rainfall has likely doomed us to see rapidly worsening conditions over next couple weeks, again. In spite of rain, falls lake has continued to drop as very little fell upstream and water use has continued to increase. Cooler weather will be only saving grace here. Looks like SC and Georgia continue to get beneficial rains this week though

At least they should have dropped the short term drought designation in those areas. I understand that lakes and resovouirs may not have recovered, but soil moisture is likely pretty much back to normal

Holy cow!! I just got home fortunately. Before that: Roads flooded, visibility near 0, driving no faster than 30 mph on the highway, flashers blinking….but made it! But something I’ve never seen before happened: water started dripping from between the top of the windshield and the roof! Fortunately I had a small towel to dry most of it up pretty quickly once I got home. After examining from the outside, I could see a portion of the rubber molding around the top of the windshield is sticking up a little.

The great news: I got ~1” of rain, my heaviest since May 2nd! The recently redug ditches nearby handled the heavy rain quite well, keeping my street from flooding. I had complained to the city about it flooding in all heavy rains. Sometimes it pays to make phone calls.

The radar showed what almost looked like a mini circulation.

No, no, no, you wanted rain you're going to get a lot of it.

Apparently all at once....Feast or famine the last year. I lost plants to drought a month ago, now I am losing some to flooding. Cant win. On a good note, everything in the area looks nice and green.

I’ve gotten some rain from thunderstorms this evening with possibly more to come. It hasn’t been that much so far (<0.25” I think). I’ll get the totals in the morning.

Edit: I’ve got yesterday’s rains near 0.20” (5/30) and only a T so far today (5/31 through 4:20PM). That gets me to ~2.7” MTD. Can I get to 3” by day’s end?

Suzook had more rain this week than I’ve had in ‘26!

Yikes! That's nuts! Had another half inch yesterday afternoon, with storms popping up already this morning. Wish everyone else could cash in.

Rain started here ~45 minutes ago and it has gotten heavy at times as boundaries collide over this area per radar.
This is a really nice rain that I’m thinking will approach or just exceed 1” and could go a good ways up from there if this continues awhile. There’s been no thunder/lightning associated with this.

Update at 7:30PM: rain is still falling (going on 1.5 hours) and there have been additional heavy periods.
As a result, I’m very likely near 2” at a minimum and counting! That makes this the best rain in months!
