Yo, Kingsport people, especially west Kingsport/ anyone in Hawkins county y'all seeing any Cherokee Lake effect snow? I've got some Watts Bar Lake effect snow here (posted in general obs) and a band from Cherokee aimed at KPT is showing up on satellite. I'll move this post later this AM. But thought more people would see it here.

We are either going to tie or break our record low for KTRI by daybreak. Skies are clear, and I am at 0°F at my location. Showing 1°F at KTRI. The official record low for KTRI on February 2nd is exactly 0°F. With a clear sky and no wind, surely we can drop another degree or two at the airport.

Edit: And we officially recorded a new record low for February 2nd. Currently -1°F at KTRI.

Edit 2: Posted in the storm OBS thread, but will paste here for posterity. KTRI officially got down to -3°F at the airport, but my vehicle read -5°F at work in Bristol. Either way, an official new record low temperature for February 2nd. Fortunately, there's no wind, so there's no real difference in wind chill.

Gonna update here too for posterity.

February 2nd, 2026 Lows:

Confirmed personal weather station minimum was -9.7F. Effective low of -12F in Honaker per WU, -13F on the Clinch river crossing and downtown Lebanon as well as -14 at Rosedale on Route 80 per vehicle thermometer.

Weather Underground weather stations indicates isolated lows in Shady Valley and Tazewell, VA reaching -17 and -18 respectively as well as readings of -15 in proximity to Johnson City on the lower valley floor. Temperature inversion was severe with the car thermometer moving through fahrenheit degrees on the basis of 25 feet of elevation gain in some cases. Weather stations also reveal areas that never saw negative temps in some high and exposed areas.
