It will start to lose energy as it transfers, but that's also going to save us from the warm air aloft surging to far north.

This would have been a true big dog in that instance, but someone on the northern edge would have gotten fringed. Blocking has been the hardest thing to come by in the last ten years, though. Maybe have to wait for an El Nino return, or we could get surprised again this year. We're on the front end of this pattern. There may be more chances in the next few weeks. Yeah, blocking could have maybe pushed this to another tier, but I can't complain. AO looks to stay strongly negative, while NAO is negative / neutral. Argues for at least a couple more storm chances into Feb as those wax and wane while helping to keep us cold.

I don't think I've heard any other media outlets use that name. Sure regionally events gets names that catch on nationally ala snowmagedon. I tend to remember storms based on the year. Burghblizz
Not doubting that there is 14” in Monesson or 15” in Beaver County. But we do see some decent spreads and I’m not sure if it’s the banding, or people measuring where wind is depositing more - lol. i have an easy 15” on my north facing back deck, but on average it’s more like 12-12.5” out in the yard. RitualOfTheTrout
Tomorrow night is going to be brutal. That wind will be blowing the snow around, maybe some borderline ground blizzard conditions. KEY MESSAGE 2... With wind gusts of 20-30 mph and 850mb temperatures falling to near -20 Celsius late Monday, temperatures will drop near zero. Wind chill values have the potential to drop as low as -25F. An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect Monday night into early Tuesday.

The report is coming in from a trained spotter, so i guess give him the benefit of the doubt. But that seems to be pretty high compared to what I am seeing out of my windows. I'll go measure here again in a little bit. Maybe my eyes are deceiving me.

Rd9108
Let's be honest once you get over 8 inches it doesnt matter. It feels like we have 2 feet out there. There's drifts definitely that high. Let's see if the airport can get over a foot.
