Temps fluctuated last night. Dropped to 30 by 1:30 am. Then rose to 35 by 4:00 am before dropping again to 28 by 6:00 am. Got above freezing by 8:00 am.  Light frost due to temp fluctuation but our first frost and temp in the 20's. Not sure if that would considered a hard freeze or not.

Temp dropped to 29 early yesterday evening, then rose to 37 by midnight before dropping to our low of 28. Nice hard freeze as temp stayed below freezing for a good solid 6 hours. I really hate living so close to the water this time of the year.

Where is your farm?  It must be in a nice "holler".

It’s just north of Louisburg airport and typically the coldest spot in the county. Usually drops 3-4 degrees on the car thermometer between getting off the pavement on 401 and when you pull in driveway. Louisburg airport was actually 19 this morning too. My weather station is less than 1/2 mile from their sensor

Ah, I have noted in the past Louisburg is one of those "typical outlying cold spots" often mentioned in the RAY AFD.  What is it about the geography to that gives such good radiational cooling?

I guess it’s just a spot without any pavement and a lot of farmland. Just happens to have a weather station there. Mine is actually on top of a hill so I’m sure there are colder spots on the farm too. Last year with snow cover it was exceptionally cold compared to RDU
