Most of us finished neutral, inland it was warmer.

ISP too for some reason as well as HVN.

Yup even with 91-20 normals. I don't even understand how anyone can deny the reality at this point.

Most people that aren't low IQ have moved on from the argument that we aren't warming and have now embraced the "the cause is anything and everything BUT anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions" defense.

Sadly there is a HUGE portion of the population that also thinks that the USA is the sole party responsible for fixing climate change when we account for only 10% of global emissions.

Several stations had top 10 warmest September temperatures so far without that high of a departure since the new climate normals are so warm. Even the -0.4 at LGA is still the 13th warmest September temperature so far. 70° Septembers have become much more common than they used to be.

I dont think most people deny its happening. I think beyond headlines most people just don’t care that much. They will reasonably make changes as necessary and drown out the overused catastrophic predictions.

Personally, im not going to alter my life in any drastic measure to change the trajectory by a decimal point 100 years from now. If that means September is a summer month, I have plenty of shorts and tank tops.

I think the biggest friction is between the mass populous that feels somewhat like I do and the doom predictors that want us to drastically change modern life.

Unfortunately the slowly boiling frog in the pot applies here. Until we see undeniable catastrophic daily events globally then most will ignore it.

Won't be long though. With current trends we'll see multiple unlivable conditions develop in a decade or so.

See Chris, this is the difference between warm and hot.

September 1983 was objectively and unequivocally the hottest September on record, but when you factor in minimum temperatures and not actual hot weather (above 90 degree heat), these other Septembers are warmer (but not as hot.)

Humanity will continue to exist (fortunately or unfortunately), we'll all just live in an Africa like climate (which is where humanity originated after all.)

I'll make the devil's advocate argument here (because I can) global cooling is MUCH more dangerous than global warming and cooling episodes have historically killed many more people and caused starvation via crop failures.

There is no boiling frog and by the way I find that phrase offensive since I am 100% against the killing of animals and animal cruelty in general.  It's why I hate the French so much (they boil frogs and explode the stomachs of ducks to make foie gras.)

Colder Septembers and Octobers -- the only people who like those are the energy companies who make money off of cold weather.

The good thing about warmer falls is, it means less money for the fossil fuel cartels too lol.

1983 actually does not hold the record for mean high during September, but does hold the record for most 90° or above days at a number of local sites.

It’s tougher these days to reach 100° in September like in 1983 since the heat has been peaking earlier in the summer. We have been seeing more 100° days in June. The area hasn’t  reached 100° after August 12th since 2005 and September 1st since 1993.

Yes, it's similar to how May was in 1991, both had a high number of 90 degree days.  September 1983 really tailed off after the 21st though and got colder in a hurry after the equinox.  Led to a very cold and dry la nina winter in 1983-84.

1961 was also very hot wow, 9 and 8 90+ highs at EWR and NYC respectively.

Wait, Don, how did EWR have an average high of 88.0 in September 1891? That looks obscenely high and MUCH higher than everyone else lol.  UHI in 1891? What does that month look like for highs/lows at EWR? How was it so much hotter there in September 1891 than NYC was?

Sorry, I pasted from the table early in this thread and accidentally overlooked my note. There were missing days.

Note: The highest average maximum temperature at Newark for a September that is missing no daily records is 83.3°, which was set in 2005.

There are multiple unlivable conditions all over the world already.  Which is why people don’t live there.  Never have.
