Burghblizz Posted February 15 Skating rink right now, with a lot of precip to go. At least it’s pretty fast moving. We haven’t had a true ice storm in awhile - usually pretty transient on the way to rain. But this looks like it could get rough. I used to like them as a kid because they “felt” like a snowstorm. You got your NWS headlines and off school.
sunnykay Posted February 15 Sheets of ice on the sidewalks in Westwood near Crafton. Salt trucks came thru on the street but I for sure wouldn’t recommend going out right now. Dont have an outdoor thermometer where I am but I am positive it’s below freezing. The ground certainly is.
Rd9108 Posted February 15 Just tried to walk down to my garbage cans and immediately slid the whole down to the top of the steps. Its pretty icy out there.
blackngoldrules Posted February 15 NWS trying to do FB live when they launch weather balloon at 6pm to get current observations if anyone else is interested in that.I watched that. Very interesting.
Ahoff Posted February 15 Slick. Streets here seem ok. People are getting through pretty well. I guess for now they are just wet. Hopefully, they stay that way.
Mailman Posted February 16 I went out and didn't fall. So...
KPITSnow Posted February 16 SOme perspective here....a lot of places around the country are in for a lot of hurt from this storm. The deep south, MA, and pacific northwest were all pretty paralyzed by it so I guess we got off a bit easy at least. TX, LA, OK, AR...they are all looking at a ton of power outages and near 0 temperatures. I am still amazed that Houston is going to hit the single digits tonight. Ths was an epic artic outbreak, one for the record books, just not for us. It is going to be -5 in little rock tonight. -12 in Oklahoma City. 2 in dallas. By any measure, this is still historic and amazing to watch.

KPITSnow Posted February 16 I'm getting the impression the HRRR is really overdoing the warm air intrusion at the surface. Per the 0z we should be changing to plain rain right now but KPIT is still sitting at 29 or 30 degrees.

Read the comments at your own risk though, certainly some gems in there that will make you further lose faith in humanity... It gets wicked on there when a forecast busts. But even if the original forecast verified and we got 9” of snow, you’d still have people on there thinking they’re clever and witty by making comments about “global warming,” as if a snowstorm negates its existence. Sleet all the way up to meadville.

They will hit 40 down there and I’m still not ruling out that we will too.
MikeB_01 Posted February 16 1/8” of ice at my house so far.
southpark Posted February 16 Been raining pretty hard for a while now. I guess at least it makes it harder to get major ice because of the runoff
TimB84 Posted February 16 0z NAM continues to run the late week low from Georgia to Delaware while still insisting that the snow changes to ice (though we get 7”). Makes absolutely no sense.

Single digits, thunder snow, huge drifts / sleet bombs etc. Not going to lie, feeling jealous. Certainly wouldn't mind feeling some of that "hurt" especially looking out and seeing our 32.1degree downpour.

blackngoldrules Posted February 16 It's actually 33 where I'm at now. Just took a ride to the store. Roads aren't all that bad now. Mostly wet and some slushiness. Still be careful if you have to go out, even here. I was mainly on 88. Side streets could still be worse.
MikeB_01 Posted February 16 Officially 32.2 at my house. All rain from here on out.
MikeB_01 Posted February 16 KAGC 2m T just jumped 1.8° in five minutes. 33.8° but still reporting ZR.

MikeB_01 Posted February 16 GFS holds serve for late week. NAM continued to move SE. Let’s do this all over again for the next 72 hours. Bring on the snow please!.

Rd9108 Posted February 16 So of course people on Facebook are shitting on the forecasters. Whats crazy is the rain/snow line is almost to the top of New York state. Thursday deal still looks good on guidance. A general 3-6 on most guidance.

I see KAGC got up to 38. ...and then there’s the NAM, which still wants to give us zr while the low is over southern Georgia to South Carolina.
