When voting yesterday, I forgot to pick Dec. 5, 2007. That was the first snowfall after I got my digital camera, so I have a lot of pictures of that one. Nice little snow event that sticks out in my mind. Also, for some reason it was the only snowfall other than the Feb 2010 blizzards that produced large icicles on my patio. On the other hand, it was basically the first and only event of the crappy 07/08 winter, so maybe it's good it didn't get a vote.

I honestly can't remember any of the 2005 snows...

I'd choose 12/5/09 as well if it were on the list.

For a number of reasons that was a special storm. First, it was the first significant "snow" storm out here in a couple of years (the stretch from 2004 - 2008 was just brutal out here). Second, it was an over-performer. Had in excess of 4" at my house in Front Royal, but a short drive out to my then-GF's house out on 522S found up to 10" - it was a wet snow and the scenery was just breath-taking. Thirdly, it was during the Christmas season and - unknown then - was to be the precursor of a memorable season. Just something about Dec snow.... even if Lucy thinks the flakes aren't yet ripe.

Did 1/30/00 give anything there or was it just a hills/suburbs event.

I had just moved to Clarksburg from Silver Spring 3 weeks earlier and watched with smug satisfaction as the snow piled up during that storm while Silver Spring struggled to breach 3". That 8.5" measurement in the Barb Watson map is from me. One of the deciding factors for me on the house was the microclimatology of Parr's ridge and the siting (sp?) of the place on a NE-facing hill and it was very rewarding to see the results almost immediately.
