Connecticut's all-time yearly rainfall record likely to fall

Collinsville

Recommended Posts

All-time single year record as far as I know is 78.53" in Burlington 1955. I noticed that after this last storm that I am up to 74.93" on the year. I know that my stats don't count so I looked into some co-op data.

Through October!

Bakersville - 70.26"

Burlington - 69.92"

Norfolk - 68.95"

mby - 67.89", I had 3.78" in Nov and 3.26" so far in Dec

So Bakersville and Burlington co-ops are probably very close to the record right now. If someone knows where the November co-op stats are post them. Will be glad to see 1955 go cause that was a fairly dry year outside of the ridiculous August and October rains. 2011 was mostly wall to wall water.

Hitting 60" of rain has been way too easy the last 10 years

74.93" 2011 (so far)

70.26" 2008

64.95" 2005

64.09" 2006

61.73" 2003

I have Bakersville at 75.15" through today. They'll probably fall just short I guess?

Although I don't see Burlington's report yet. Through 11/30 they were at 73.06".

I had 3.26" for the last couple of days. Bakersville report seems to be awfully low at 2.02", might be a typo in there. Burlington observations are like 2 miles or less from me so they will have ~3" more.

I agree about the Bakersville report. Assuming Burlington gets 3" they're over 76" and within striking distance. Will be a race to the finish.

  • 4 weeks later...

I finished the year with 77.55". Since some of the co-ops were a 1-2" ahead of me then they should be right there for the State record!

This made me look at the TAN ASOS over here and it looks like they ended up with a little more than 52" on the year. Just an incredible year in CT for extremes.

A good chunk of the area is between 55-65". Certainly wet all across SNE, but CT and western mass have been soaked. Irene was a big part of that too.

Just finished up the 2011 review at WFO BOX, and talk about extremes!! We had 60.08 inches of precip for 2011 here. This is the 4th wettest year here since 1997 when we started records.

Interesting, eh?

I thought I posted the first RER that was issued for this record, but I guess it's under another thread. Here you go:

THREE VERY RAINY MONTHS HELPED TO ESTABLISH THIS RECORD. THE NINTH

Awesome!

Considering that the wettest annual locations in North America located in the boreal rain forests of the British Columbia NW average between 10 to 15 feet of rain, having SNE locales registering 50-80" (roughly 1/2 to 2/3rds that amount) is nothing short of staggering.

Considering that - if those numbers are correct - they've exceeded 60" so often since 2005 is interesting. Makes one wonder about the other states.

Bakersville co-op fell short at 78.23", this came direct from the observer. Have to see what Burlington came up with next, they need 5.48" for Dec . Norfolk also needs 6.59"+ for Dec.
