  1. I say kicked off loosely - thunder was fairly audible and I checked radar and pulled the plug for our family - seemed like the anvil was expanding overhead so seemed safest. Maybe the guards would have kicked us off shortly, though.
  2. Bummed to be missing a fun weather week - pretty nice down here in Nags Head, but got kicked off the beach by distant thunder, as has been the theme all summer.
  3. Yep, ruined my scheduled swim lessons today. Lose about $50 every hour the pool is closed… grr. This is crazy though, caught a bolt seemingly 20+ miles out from the parent thunderstorm. Guess that’s why we have to close up shop. CWG says it might’ve been an error, though.
  4. Nothing annoys me more than parents pulling out their futurecast radar when it storms at the pool… such a silly product, even if I get the appeal.
  5. This subforum being so great is (legitimately) one of the reasons I want to live in this area post-grad. One of a litany of reasons, but I love having a great group to talk weather with. Tough to find that elsewhere, it seems, though every subforum surely has its good posters.
  6. That warning within the warning is pretty funny. For when you want people to know you are serious, I guess.
  7. lol, SVR warned. of course. Guess things might be loosened up by yesterday, so a proactive call, even if there is no way in hell we verify this looking at radar.
  8. GRLevel3 - fun desktop radar program. Can watch 4 different radars at once, which is kinda neat. Anyways, DC split looks real, though might be a couple thundershowers coming out from under the radar beam. Wouldn't mind a break today, anyway.
  9. any chance you have a link to that? dm me if so, always looking to up my GR experience.
  10. Yep, that's the exact place these photos were at. Guess it really was a super localized microburst
  11. Not sure this is near you, but got these from a friend in the Falls Hill area.
  12. Honestly, it worked a lot better than the LTE in the neighborhood. Have always had pretty poor service here but it was unusable earlier. Some combination of everyone using it at once/maybe being closer to a 3G tower.
  13. Power back on after around five hours… worst outage since 2018, which seems like it has to be untrue but pretty sure it’s right. Was just starting to get hot indoors.
  14. Really loud thunder is persisting behind the storm - super neat. Thankful this other storm bear Sterling looks to miss. Not enjoying the power being out whatsoever.
  15. I’m out as well. Cellular is terrible so I’m on 3G. Was fairly intense for a bit.
  16. Wow, think I’m about to get whacked in Arlington. Woo 5% day.
  17. A lot of warnings for no watch. Hopefully something delivers.
  18. Man, that STW out by Washington, VA is super wimpy. Nice to see storms already popping, though.
  19. Pretty stationary stuff. Would love some actual rain when the pool closes, rather than this annoying distant thunder.
  20. Going to school throughout August seems super weird, but it actually makes a ton of sense for standardized testing, which happens in May. Most kids around here have a fairly rushed AP/IB curriculum as some schools get a whole extra month to spread it out. Not sure it really hurts scores, but I've always been surprised that some of the really Type A parents don't complain more, especially after the Kings Dominion law got repealed.
  21. I’m right on the struggle line. Enough to be slightly annoying.
  22. Now that I actually glance outside… very light drizzle.
  23. All jokes aside from earlier, gonna be very close call. Can see the northern edge battling a bit, genuinely looks a little like December 2018. I'd guess rain makes it to most of the Beltway, but who knows.
