  1. Some great examples of lightning well away from a storm right over DC right now. Hearing good thunder in Arlington, even.
  2. This is a poor afternoon to have a B-meet…
  3. Meeting my (first!) forum member after all these years does make me want to have a meet-up soon… I’m not great at the organization aspect but I feel like it’s been a long time… would love to put a face to your names (beyond some of your Twitter profiles).
  4. Got to meet the lovely@SnowenOutThere this morning at our CSL swim meet… he’s quite fast! Probably the most exciting meet of the year... Won the last relay, which at the time we thought was good for a two point win. Cue a massive celebration. Sadly, (not for Snowen) we ended up tying (after thinking we had won for 30 minutes, unfortunately) because they forgot to count one of our DQs and didn’t catch it until they verified the scores at the end. Heartbreaking, but still a great meet, though some of the kids are gonna be disappointed come Monday, lol.
  5. Think of the cold swimmers (and coaches) practicing in the morning!
  6. Here we do, but a Charlottesville radar would be excellent. Even just a terminal radar at CHO would work wonders.
  7. Check your DMs. Might be able to meet you soon, lol.
  8. I didn't realize all of you were such dedicated swimmers/swim parents. Without diving too deep into identifying factors (though I've linked ya'll to posts with my name, lol), I was a long-time competitive swimmer both in the summer and winter. Since then I've been coaching for the last three years... hope you parents like your teams' coaches! We try our best to keep things moving and make sure the kids can actually make it across the pool, I swear. We also deeply appreciate all the volunteers... the less pool set up we do the better. Did the 4:00am wake-up call grind throughout high school as well... national-level swimming is a real chore for parents and swimmers alike (until we learn to drive!). If you are all familiar with the local girl who is heading to the Olympics, I swam with her for quite a bit.
  9. Gross weather this morning. Stepped outside at 6:40 and it was already oppressive. Feels like a storm day for sure.
  10. I dunno… the knee pain is already setting in.
  11. You guys obviously aren’t hopping in the pool everyday. Mid 80s at least, please.
  12. They seem to be pretty gone in Northern Arlington. Not nearly as many cicadas sacrificing themselves by landing in the pool. Might've missed my chance to eat a cicada taco... oh well.
  13. To not take this literally, there is a valid/interesting debate on increasing numbers of short-lived storms, which can at least partially be attributed to better observation techniques rather than climate change. Not sure what this means practically, other than it might be worth considering that old averages might be slightly misleading - these storms likely always existed and just weren't observed as frequently. Not like they shouldn't count now that we've found them!
  14. All the emergency alarms just went off in my house, so I’ll take that as a win.
  15. This is pretty wild, too. What a landing that must’ve been. Tour of prohibited airspace.
  16. ^ I’ll take credit for that but I was trying to stick my neck out for a flash flood warning. We’ll see…
  17. Could see some flooding problems in the Beltway with the trajectory of these storms. Sort of expecting a FFW.
  18. Nice summer storm here in Arlington. Nothing crazy but good lightning and rain.
  19. Wasn’t really expecting this rain. Looks to be pretty brief down by the metro at least.
  20. It seems to be on the way. Pretty cool to watch the radar blossom right after the boundary moves through. This wasn't timed well to cancel what I want to cancel, but glad to get in on the fun for a bit.
  21. Loud thunder overhead. My complaining finally worked. Good luck to everyone else.
  22. Minus that one storm near Fredericksburg, it really sucks to be in VA so far.
  23. I've already accepted it won't rain today (hoping for a reverse jinx). Bet the storms around DC set up over Landover, again...
  24. The pattern this week sucks. Shut it down.
