E PA/NJ/DE Winter 2022-2023 OBS Thread
KamuSnow replied to Ralph Wiggum's topic in Philadelphia Region
Yeah we often keep them on one tree outside until sometime in March, lol, whenever it looks like we are done with snow, for that reason. It does look nice (with snow). Problem is, this year we never got around to putting them up. We had some on that tree but a buck must've got his antlers tangled in them, cuz we found a string in the field about 40 feet away. -

Just going by memory, no data, it seems that when the wiggum rule works it's usually accumulating snow, more than just flakes. We shall see! -
10F here, still windy! Looked at Watertown NY webcam, they're expecting 2 to 4 ft. of snow overnight and tomorrow with blizzard warnings.

Well you gave it a shot! Invigorating isn't it, lol? At least for the first few minutes...

Well, we have been running low on kettle fire wood lately, but not anymore! Don't think we'll have the traditional Friday night kettle fire tonight though. Pretty brutal out with the wind.
-
Thanks! Lol, yeah there was a pile of slush earlier from the rain washing the sleet down the driveway, but even that's gone.
-
Thanks! Missed a lot of things, like the well head across the driveway, some bushes, etc. Fell in the perfect spot. We feel lucky.
-
Might not be too bad, forecast here calls for west winds tomorrow. Could be nice and steamy out on the water!

22F here, DP 8. The snow frosting dried up or melted, but this cold means business. Lost a tree around noon that we knew was on the way out, had planned on cutting off one large mostly dead branch, but now the whole tree is down. It was about 7 feet from the NW corner of the barn, but it fell due north, thankfully. I mean thank goodness! It did empty the rainwater out of the green wagon, lol. Gives me something to do in my spare time, haha.

Still a little light snow here, 30F. Back edge closing in, but we got a frosting on the grass. Nice to see snow flying today!

That thin line was cool, started as a heavy shower, then over to heavy sleet, and then back to light rain in about 5 minutes. Did get a coating of sleet in shaded areas. Temp now 40F.
-
Let's see what this pencillonimous line does when it gets here, assuming that the northern edge extends a bit. Could be sleet or graupel based on reports from the MA. Currently 44F here.

I agree. The Eagles snow bowl on December 8th set the tone nicely.

I wrote an article about a snowstorm, a wave, and a picture

Nice, good job! Also, sometimes having weather as a hobby yields practical benefits :- ). -
Leaves are coming out of the woodwork, lol.

Yes indeed. Snuck in here pretty quickly! Might get some wind with it. Only had stronger breezes here for a little while this afternoon, but I heard that sound of strong wind blowing through leafless trees for the first time this fall. A different kind of roar, I like it, although it's easier on the skin when its 68 degrees out.

Not in the forecast, but some hail would be a nice touch as well.

Your going out at noon might have a calming effect on the wind, but it might work better later. Mt. Holly says this in their forecast discussion: Winds will still be gusty in the morning out of the west, perhaps over 30 mph at times early, but will gradually wind down through the afternoon
