  1. De Blasio can’t be gone soon enough. Spineless is right and also a liar to claim that this was unforecasted and meteorologists dropped the ball.
  2. Wow. Horrendous that most deaths from Ida will likely be in this area. Goes to show how water is by far the deadliest aspect of any storm.
  3. I wish there was a way we could capture all this water we keep getting here and ship it out west to where it’s needed and they’re dealing with one of their worst droughts on record.
  4. This is freshwater flooding that while still tragic isn’t as bad as saltwater flooding for property/equipment/electronics. There wasn’t an 8+ foot surge that inundated every coastal area. The subways won’t be shut down for weeks in many cases. There are places that had catastrophic effects from this but calling it “another Sandy” or worse is hyperbole.
  5. This isn’t as bad as Sandy but it does look catastrophic in some areas. The problem as always is flooding here. NYC is surrounded by water on 3 sides and we have so much underground infrastructure that floods in a situation like this. Tragically my thought that our death toll might end up higher than the South’s from Ida looks like will verify.
  6. These Gulf storms often have a Part 2 in this region where they hit Atlantic moisture and dump again. Allison and Camille and now Ida.
  7. Reminds me of the remnants of Hurricane Patricia in Oct 2015 when I was in Austin. Parts of the city had 15” from that mostly falling that morning. That’s still by far the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen. It probably beat the rain rates in this storm even. That reminded me of the Aug 2014 event in Islip.
  8. Central Park 3.15" in one hour. About 7" total now. Thankfully in NYC this is about done now but an absolutely insane 2 hours.
  9. Heavy rain again here but looks like the worst is over outside of central/eastern Suffolk. Radar estimating I'm at 5" or so now. Maybe I can make it to 6".
  10. Sandy submerged most of the subway system with salt water which also fried the electronics. This won't be as bad. But still a devastating flood situation for some. Some of these Gulf systems have a crazy "Part 2" in the Mid Atlantic or Northeast like Camille in VA. This is clearly Ida's "Part 2".
  11. That could be from Long Beach to Montauk Point? Also-another heavy band coming into Nassau. Not as heavy as this last one but will still be rough. Just heard a loud rumble of thunder.
  12. Uhh, no. Not sure where you are but radar estimates 4.5" for me and 2"+ in an hour. And 3-4"/hr with 7-8" total now around New Hyde Park to Glen Cove.
  13. N Nassau from Great Neck to Glen Cove estimated over 7" already too. E Nassau getting destroyed and that training band is on my doorstep.
