  1. In order to model good pbp manners for all the new and infrequent posters
  2. Been wondering about this too, specifically whether models may have "misjudged" the snow/ice cover contribution (? I have no guess, question for mets)
  3. Just gonna drop this here...and also ping @eyewall who's been posting some beauts. (glad you're safe!)
  4. I had to explain the Georgetown joke to Nomz sorry for the banter but it's only going to keep bewildering the poor guy
  5. One year we had a troll who reported rain in Georgetown during a snow event. It's now a running joke. (getting a wee bit tired imho but that's just me it gets the laughs.
  6. Low of 14. Nearest mesonet station in Abingdon low of 12. Side note, it's wild how often I am pretty much exactly 2 degrees higher than that station. Have come to expect it.
  7. Pleased to say I found it easily before reading these helpful posts but thanks!
  8. A place to share photos of the late January snowpack, of hopefully more snows to come, and of our mid-Atlantic winter scenery in general! Photographers and non-photographers welcome. Beautiful art shots and sooty parking lot piles, it's all good. Here is a shot of the Bush River, covered in ice and snow.
  9. I've never started one. Since 2009. Need to look at how it's done haha
  10. We're going to have a snow pack for a while. Remember when we used to have winter photo threads? Maybe I dreamed it, too many lame winters. Where should we post pics of the Miracle Mirage aftermath, the normal obs thread? Can't be many from me, unless I clear some attachments eeesh. Would be nice to see more from around the sub tho...keep the snow cheer going.
  11. Just finished driveway round two and done. Still using only a hammer and snow shovel lol. I was actually impressed at how handy the hammer was with busting up or slicing away/removing the ice crust. Lighter and easier for me than jabbing at it with a metal shovel. After my labors I tested out the snowpack. Broke through occasionally but was mostly able to walk on top! Instant being a kid again!! This is after a high of 26 and sun, it can only get better.
  12. Thanks, this is helpful! 10" seems more correct.
  13. Re: our hood, I'm having FOMO about recording 9" lol. I think you are the 10.1" spotter, right? And the Abingdon spotter is now at 10.8". I only measured twice, did you measure more often? also my sleet measurement was for shit, it was a mess.
  14. I waited till today to shovel and it's not unmanageable, just a bit slow. Just dug out the car and some of the driveway, which thankfully is flat and not super long. Going back out in a bit. Sun was a help with the car once the snow pack on it was loosened up. I've been going at it kind of primitively...cleaned around the car by stomping on the pack with a foot and either kicking the chunks away or lifting and tossing away by hand (thick waterproof gloves ftw). No shovel involved lol. When not stomping the glacier I'm using a hammer to break the crust. Once underneath it's soft and not difficult to shovel. Feels pretty good out there my god I love snow!!! Bring me more!
  15. I measured 6.5" snow after the flip, around 10 am. Measured the sleet portion around 4 pm, inconsistent 2" - 2.5". Another ~quarter inch fell after that. I feel safe saying mby recd 9", it might be low. Nearest spotters so far are Abingdon (10") and T. August btw 9-10" I think.
  16. Welll I measured 6.5" like 30 minutes after the flip started this morning 10-ish. Not very confident about the measurement I just took of what fell after that on cleared area. It has to be at least 2-2.5" imo, but it's unruly stuff.
  17. Just realized it's gonna be "giant sheets of ice and snow flying off car tops at speed" season. Been a while!
  18. Thinking about baking some banana bread or muffins with dark chocolate chips. Real food is currently an unknown.
