A strong cold front moves across the area Thursday morning, then much colder and windy conditions quickly develop into Thursday night. For areas along and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a period of snow showers, possibly mixed with some rain, is likely Thursday morning between 3 AM to 6 AM. For areas east of the Blue Ridge, a mix of rain and snow showers is likely between 5 AM to 8 AM. Additional light snow showers are possible through late morning. In areas along and west of the Blue Ridge and in north-central Maryland, near freezing temperatures could allow some of this snow to stick on roadways, possibly creating slick conditions. Commuters Thursday morning should allow extra time to reach their destination, and use extra caution when driving through any snow shower. Windy conditions quickly develop around or just after sunrise Thursday morning, and continue through Thursday evening. Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected across the area, with up to 60 mph possible. These strong winds could result in downed trees and power lines. Those outdoors Thursday morning will notice a rapid decrease in temperature when those strong winds begin. The strong winds and cold temperatures will produce wind chills in the teens to low 20s the entire day, even in sunnier conditions during the afternoon. It is important to wear appropriate clothing to avoid frostbite and hypothermia. Take needed actions to protect yourself, children, pets, plants, and pipes from the cold. $$ KR
  3. Just came here to post this. Still on first flakes watch. Vigilance!
  4. I saw three flakes It's been fun reading the thread and seeing the pics!! Happy winter.
  5. Yeah I saw that and looked for mention of the fires, must be related...last night the air quality index at the Edgewood monitor was in the "very unhealthy" category. Not that bad right now. Here's an article about what's up and APG's "let it burn" policy and why that exists :/ https://www.baltimoresun.com/2024/11/03/fire-aberdeen-proving-ground/ There's probably a discussion raging somewhere about this...if there was testing...if so, why during a state burn ban..idk, I have not seen much news or public info as yet.
  6. something burning on APG (? per airnow map), just started looking into it because it is SMOKY.
  7. Low 46, high 63, gorgeous day
  8. High of 72 https://theonion.com/mr-autumn-man-walking-down-street-with-cup-of-coffee-1819574012/
  9. .90" so far this week, none of which has fallen today. Blobs inbound now. I've enjoyed the cooler, cloudy day today despite the humidity.
  10. gusty outflow boundary just hit from the storms tracking SE from PA
  11. Interesting tidbit about the WH. Yeah, maybe trust is involved for some people, even to this day. I'm not sure why the folks I know prefer it...but I'm glad they found each other.
  12. Positively not. There was something about tree cover and attic fans. Again, nope.
  13. Today I learned...that someone I have worked with for years...someone whose home I have never visited, but who I thought I knew fairly well...HAS NO AIR CONDITIONING AT ALL. Lives in a very nice old neighborhood and can well afford it. They don't even throw in a window unit when it's like this. Nothing. I can be pretty tough but I'm at least sleeping with AC on. Dang. edit - balto city this isn't the catoctins or whatnot
  14. Looked it up, beautiful moth and a boss caterpillar. It was faster than I expected. From my slight research I thought maybe a couple weeks.
  15. Update. Butterfly has launched. Looks like you called it @IronTy
  16. RadarScope is worth it. I have both desktop/mobile. I miss the old iweathernet zoomability as well. 0.25" today
  17. These photos didn't really do it justice plus had to screenshot and reduce. From yesterday. It's in a container now and taking a day off from paparazzi.
  18. It does look more whitish. It's absolutely wild looking now, with a silvery sheen and metallic gold spots. Will try to get a pic and post later.
  19. There are def violets though the real patches are not close to the porch. I've seen great spangled fritillaries (best name ever) around in years past, looked up and read larva feed on violets, which is a reason I leave the patches under trees But I didn't read so far to see it's so many species. The shot was actually yesterday and things have progressed today. Spectating. I might need to find a safer spot as plant can blow around/over in a storm.
