Fading daylight, temp 22, breezy with a windchill 14, ground covered in snow, Christmas lights beginning to illuminate…can’t think of a more wintery scene!

Here in the tropical shores of the Potomac at Ft. Hunt , VA, Just measured an 1.0 inch, sticky pretty snow. Winter wonderland. Trees and roads covered. Gonna be my total I think. Winding down and getting windy…gonna be a great day for a for a fire and watching football with lots a beer!

Let me tell you about the $1500 snow blower I bought in mid Feb 2010 and never used until 2014! Jinxes are real…and sometimes expensive!

I feel I have seen this movie a hundred times since I moved here in 1998…these redevelopment clipper things work out about 1/20 times…the last to actually work I think was in 2014…though everything worked out that year. If I was a betting man, which I am not, I would bet on snow north east along 95 from Baltimore, south of that nada….but F*ck it, we have been on a heater. Snow from Fredericksburg northeast along 95, 15 miles either side, the more you go NE.

Confirming sleet and freezing rain now here at the Mt. Vernon Rec Center, temp 31. Fun Stuff!

Doing something down here, at swim meet but my rain gauge detected something, rain rate says moderate and cameras are showing that it’s not fluffy flakes…maybe sleet is my guess or heavier freezing rain. Will know in about an hour.

Man, y’all went to some dark places reminiscing about those that could have been. The good news is with the improvement of the models we don’t get left at the alter as much…we get much more warning that we are going to get screwed over now!

What you are seeing is the former Hoco/Westminister/Psu death band….now known as the Prince William/Springfield/Alexandria death band…at least for the last 4 years

Seems we have seen this movie many times over the last few years with these weak systems. They seem to trend a bit north as we get closer. There isn’t a ton of upside, it’s not gonna magically juice up, best case is areas in the skunk zone get a coating and that 1-2 inch expands a bit. Will be interesting to see if this scenario plays out again this time. Maybe the models have been having trouble resolving the cold and dry air to the north at range, maybe a data sampling thing…maybe aliens.

Guess it’s time to shut off the outside hose bibs, put the garden hoses away and 86 the remaining summer plants. I can dig out the snow shovels too if anyone wants me to totally jinx winter…let me know.
