  1. Moderate drought was popping up in my area as per the latest drought monitor. Not much rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Currently it’s 87 outside. September a lock to finish above normal once again.
  2. For real. Nothing exciting for the next 7+ days. Getting awful dry around here. I leave next Saturday for southern Alabama. We rented a lake house down there for a week. Can’t freaking wait.
  3. Had my first notable rain event in 3 weeks today. High pressure parks over the region for the next week, looks like a nice week. Seriously can’t believe Thursday is August 1st.
  4. Never made it above 92 during this heatwave. Highest HI reading has been 107. Nothing to crazy, almost run of the mill for peak summer heat.
  5. Nice bowing segment plowing through west central Illinois. Wouldn’t mind getting a healthy drink before the heatwave, but it appears the heaviest precipitation will fall to my SW.
  6. Wishing you a speedy recovery Hoosier. Your health is the most important thing you can have. Glad things are slowly improving for you.
  7. Correct 2014-2015 officially classified as a weak El Niño. The last neutral was 2013-2014.
  8. One of the absolute worst starts to summer I can ever remember. Temps running right around -3.5 for the month, wouldn’t be bad if the damn rain would stop. This pattern has been relentless. Honestly though, I said this back in April, this spring/early summer has been very 2013 ish.
  9. It appears many local farmers around here just took the insurance pay out. Even after the 1 week mild/dry spell many fields remain untouched. Going to be crazy in August to not see very much corn up.
  10. Dropped down to 48. Paducah and Cape Girardeau tied their record lows.
  11. Between the flooding out in the plains for the cattle farmers, and the flooding in the Midwest for crop farmers, a wetter than normal June will be a disaster. Local farmers had a meeting yesterday pertaining to crop insurance, if crops aren’t in the ground by the 5th, the insurance is voided. Heard a rumor some farmers are opting even planting and just taking an insurance check. It’s bad guys.
  12. This storm just west of Champaign really getting its act together. Had some broad rotation and a hook echo.
  13. Not one, not two, but THREE EF-1 tornadoes confirmed in Champaign county early Sunday morning per the NWS. One of the tornadoes that hit Urbana had winds of 90-100mph. Pretty impressive.
  14. A local farmer was interviewed last night about the planting progress and how slow progress has been made. He had been farming since 1984 claiming this is the latest on record that he can remember by far. By May 28th 90-95% of the corn crop should be planted, and roughly 50% of the bean crop. As of right now 30-35% of the corn crop has been planted, and beans remain around 10% planted. Apparently after June 1st the yield goes down 17%.
  15. Thinking about heading out here soon. If anyone wants to meet up somewhere just send a DM. Should be a nice event unfolding.
  16. Multiple large trees uprooted in and around the Champaign-Urbana area. I’m just going to assume the very soggy ground is contributing to the uprooted trees, we gusted to 63mph last night.
  17. Looks like the NWS was surveying damage in Muncie, which is 30 minutes from me. They concluded an EF-1 with winds of 105mph.
  18. Willard airport which is 1 mile from my house gusted to 68mph last night. Minor damage being reported around the city as well.
  19. Tweeted to a local met last night about how this years planting stacks up against other late planting years, and with records going back to 1979 he confirmed this is the latest since said records began.
  20. So I just plotted 1993 against 2019 so far and the results are insanely similar.
  21. So far we have failed to even reach 60 degrees today, in fact at noon on my lunch break it was 52 and very windy. With off and on rain chances literally everyday this week, we could be looking at anywhere from 1-3” of rain. Local met posted the graphic below, citing great concern for planting across the area. I’m really wondering what this summer has in store. This spring has reminded me a lot of 2013.
  22. Has any planting been completed up there? The latest outlook for your area does not look good for the next 7-10 days. It’s starting to get concerning here, while they were able to get some planting done the last 48 hours, things are once again put on hold. I would say locally maybe 20% has been completed.
  23. Ah so close man! I’m the 24th.
