  1. Don't be. We had enough. it's only early Dec. Good times ahead Ant.
  2. Those bands aren't coming to north Jersey Anthony. Perhaps LI?
  3. I don't think the forecast was that bad. I fully expected places north of me at higher elevations to get substantially more snow in this kind of storm. 1-3 was always a good call, and those calling for 3-6, well, a lot of us seem to have gotten to 3. So that's not exactly blown. I do think these new models overdo things; I'd be sitting at 100 inches a year if some of them panned out ( they don't, and thank God ).
  4. Pretty obvious its about done out here. Seen it dozens of times. I took a long walk in Merrill and it was really cool in one of those heavy bands. But I hope the whole season isn't the same level of uncertainty. As I said prior, my area usually struggles anyway. i expected 1-3 and I think it looks like about 3 to me out there. Tapering off now will be a blessing for everyone getting out of work.
  5. Move the blue over to the raritan bay coast off Perth Amboy and Woodbridge; an inch might already have been exceeded there.
  6. Congratulations on your retirement; my wife is also in the research end of the pharma business. I have 31 years at my job as well, but will hang on a little while longer, til my youngest graduates. As you may remember, I'm a practicing MSW with an interest in the social aspects of weather; some here often wonder what the heck that means. I think you are a good example; folks valued your input and want to keep in touch with you, but I suspect it is more than that. I think when you have worked with people for years, you develop bonds, and they want to stay in touch in some way. Best of luck to you, I have always enjoyed your analysis.
  7. I have not waivered from 1-3 for my region and that is what the pros are saying on radio reports. More north and west. But these models have been all over, with the NAM posted now showing a lot of ME with significant snow ( 5-7 inches which is not much to them but I know one grumpy old guy up there who will be complaining about it ). Other maps yesterday had them with nothing. So, pick a map you like, and see what happens, cause anything is still on the table IMHO.
  8. i give up. I have IEP's to write; winter break is coming and I am under pressure to get things done before the break, and I'm sitting here hoping for a snow day which will only make my workload worse. Will see you all when this gets rolling, if it ever does.
  9. Often the case, and yeah that does happen. It can start accumulating quickly, even if there's a lot of rain prior. Seen that lots of times. Makes cleanup interesting.
  10. Its really rare to get a big whopper in my parts this time of year, 3-4 solid inches, even if sloppy, would be a big deal. Go ten miles west its a different story. But not always, Boxing day delivered over 30 here and just a few inches not far west.
  11. That actually shows a significant 4-5 inches northeastern NJ. That would be a decent event for this time of year, but is it counting sleet? and that cutoff looks awfully sharp.
  12. This is exactly at odds with another poster. Since I am not interested in looking at models myself, it makes it kinda confusing to see these reports. How could it be ugly if another poster says it looks further east ( either solution misses me so really don't care, just wondering )
  13. LOL west of me, east of me....someone will get something in some direction away from here. One thing I'll say, there has been no shortage of nasty east winds this fall. More than I can ever remember. Prevailing winds are supposed to be westerly, at least that's what the answer was on the old captain's exam. I remember one ol salt saying yeah, send em down here any afternoon during summer and I'll show em "westerly" winds....
  14. Anthony just west of SI we never saw any snow at all here all day but had a period of sleet. As I went further west it transitioned ( Somerset CTY ) to heavy rain and that's where its been all night. In fact at the Costco people were watching scenes from the game and asking where they were playing at ( a lot of us don't watch football and didn't know it was a home game for Giants? I think...sorry I don't watch sports except for some soccer so I'm not informed on these things ) because there was obvious snow OTG and there was nothing locally.
  15. And not everyone in NE likes snow; many people in the Boston area are there for work and hope for a transfer. And some people think the amount of snow we get in NJ is excessive ( actually a lot of people ). They obviously don't live near me...
  16. Well no one called for more than 1-3 here, and so I don't expect much. I get 3-4 when they call for 8-12....
  17. It's that band that keeps showing up....the one that has my back yard getting nothing while the guy two blocks away gets 3-6. I wonder if is the influence of Raritan Bay or the Arthur Kill. I'm not right on the bay, but a few miles in. We don't think of ourselves as coastal at all, but a hundred years ago Sewaren was a beach resort...
  18. No, they often don't. I mean, in big storms, HECS, we do well, but in most marginal situations we don't do well compared to others to our east, west, north, or south. Jan 2011 was one that jackpotted us, but it also did so for large areas, so did Jan 2016. In Feb 2006, we had around 18 inches, but areas two miles from here had 26! In March 2018, areas to my immediate west ( like 5 min down 27 )had 10 inches or more while we had around 4. Like I said, it happens often enough that there has to be some reason for it.
  19. Just went over to sleet here. Guess we'll be back and forth till it warms up.
  20. Nothing. BUt as I traveled into Union C on the Parkway I saw a few inches. But I am in a bit of a snowhole that rarely jackpots, its just the way it is. Many people here don't even believe me, it will be snowing heavy to my west or east or wherever and we'll be getting light snow and struggling to get more than 3 inches. This happens too often to not be some sort of area phenomenon.
  21. Yeah we had nothing in April 97, or maybe a slight dusting; there was one that left a quarter inch that wasn't treated and this destroyed my 1987 Dodge Ram when I slit into a curb. Two wheel drive guzzler that was awful in any kind of snow.
  22. OUr locals are not real bullish on our area, 1-3 seems the possible and most likely scenario, and would be a typical type outcome. But any snow early in Dec is nice to see; could mean an active pattern ahead, despite all the gloom and doom I see in the long term outlooks.
  23. When i was a kid this was not unusual....areas to our west usually got more snow, down through Mercer/ Trenton. This is anecdotal. It's further from the coast so it could happen. On that map I'd be nearly out of any snow at all, just west of SI. After a lull earlier, we are into some freezing rain here, with cars glazed over lightly.
  24. I'm seeing a side of literate bitterness we've not seen before from you.....did you minor in American Lit? Think Twain....ya know, cauliflower is just cabbage with a college degree, thunder is impressive but its lightning that does the damage...
