2022 Mid-Atlantic Severe Wx Thread (General Discussion Etc)
SouthboundYank replied to Kmlwx's topic in Mid Atlantic
Indeed. One of the worst hails I've experienced since moving to this house 20+ years ago. My wife asked me to move her car out of the carport to take advantage of the car wash-like deluge, and I'd no sooner got it out into the driveway when I heard the hard pinging start...needless to say, I pulled it back into the carport. -
34/26, light rain. Radar indicates freezing rain, but it's not (at least here).

Amen. 30. With friggin' flurries and snow showers in today's forecast...

We semi-mock the simple graphics of these early-gen consoles back in the 1980s....but they were REALLY fun, and I think the simplicity had a lot to do with that. Pick up and play, damn it! Easy to learn and adapt. The PlayStation 2 (for which I still have that copy of the SSX Tricky snowboarding game) was one of the last consoles that was still somewhat easy to pick up and adapt to. Console games have gotten SO damn complicated now...I try to play football, hockey or soccer on the PS5 with one of my adult sons but get routinely routed by them....because I can't keep all of the complicated button-mashing straight. It may have something to do with my, you know, AGE, too.

Oh, MAN, did you dredge up some memories! I had the later generation of this, the Odyssey2, when I was a teenager. It wasn't Atari or Intellivision, but it held its own! But almost every weekend now, I treat myself to my favorite game ever -- SSX Tricky. My sons even bought me a beat-up, used PlayStation 2 and an old copy of SSX Tricky, so I can relive the "old" days (SSX came out in the early 2000s ). Of course, the physics in SSX are completely goofy and impossible, but damn, is it fun doing those uber-tricks.

Uggggh, SAME. I let the early warmup tempt me, and plan (seemingly too early) my own power washing of the back patios this weekend. Just as well, as I haven't accounted for the annoying red bloom thingys that fall from the trees, as well as the damn spinners which will make their appearance in several weeks...all of which stain the patios.

Thank you, my friend, and I wish you the very same!! While we've not formally "met," you're still the ONLY person I know in this area who shares the same cake day. Have a safe trip and enjoy your weekend away! And LOL...yeah, I've lost count how many times I've turned 29...but I'm quite sure it's more times than both you AND @H2O.

2022 Mid-Atlantic Severe Wx Thread (General Discussion Etc)
SouthboundYank replied to Kmlwx's topic in Mid Atlantic
Interesting. Since the storm blasted me out of sound sleep and I observed/heard most of it, my casual obs were that it was more intense than storms from recent memory (last fall, summer). I was awakened, in fact, about 20 minutes before the worst of it hit -- the lightning was pretty intense in advance of the real gametime overhead. -
2022 Mid-Atlantic Garden, Lawn, and Other Green Stuff Thread
SouthboundYank replied to mattie g's topic in Mid Atlantic
Pink dogwood blossoms are just starting to pop on our front tree...and of course, we're due for a string of overnight temps at or below freezing in the coming days. SO pissed....gonna go without dogwood blooms for the umpteenth year in a row due to early warmup followed by a late-season freeze.- 137 replies

Okay. THAT'S as arguably horrifying as my skin-peeling-off-the-foot meme from last month...

You're not kidding. Helluva storm between 11-11:30 p.m. last evening. I'd just fallen asleep, but was jarred awake by the thunder, and then kept awake by the constant fireworks.

All of the above is comforting to hear....some days I feel like I might be one of the very few listening to SiriusXM's 1st Wave channel and its related online-only variations (e.g., 1st Wave Party, etc.). Nobody else in my family can listen to it all day like I do. My adult sons still look at me sideways when I put on any R.E.M. Agree 100%. This thing is a rock symphony. I blast the volume EVERY time it comes on the radio. And I freak out at the pick slide in the middle just like this guy does, every time.

Man, I'll say....

Forgot to glance at your posting time and thought you posted that this morning....instant thought was, "MAN, he's hardcore!!" Oh, and it's currently 57...hopefully making that successful run into the mid 70s today.

100% - at this point we need to create a new verb for QBs who feel the need to troll us with their "retirements." Favre-ing, maybe?. "Geez...Brady just favre-ed us again..."

Good to hear that Short Pump didn't get Short Pump'ed on this storm. -

Down to 26, winds definitely picking up over past two hours. Snapped this vid about an hour ago....not blizzard conditions, but probably as close as we're gonna get in SE FfxCo anytime soon. Definitely saw more horizontal snow during today's event than I've seen the whole time I've lived here. -
Already used earlier this week in reference to AmPol, but perhaps applicable here:

Currently at 32, with occasional flurries but it appears the main show is done here. As @Kingstonian mentioned earlier (I'm just downhill from him), we got just shy of an inch. Winds were a bit gusty at times this morning, at least enough to give us horizontal snow. They seem to be picking up more now. Our best rates (somewhat visible in background of this video) came between 9-11 a.m. and this guy was perfectly content to hang in our dogwood tree most of the morning until the snow started to let up. He'd do a violent full-body shake of his feathers about every other minute to "clear the snow," but I could never quite capture him in the act. -
Alright, I'll say it -- NOT looking forward to tomorrow (Saturday's) wintery event. OTOH, it's the seemingly final threat for the season, to be followed by a nice stretch of sunny and 60 degree temps. So I'll suck it up, shovel whatever comes tomorrow, and impatiently wait for it all to melt on Sunday.

UGGGGGHHHH. We used to drive to our hometown of Williamsport, PA about once in a quarter throughout the 90s and 2000s, and I-270 was the absolute WORST on every single one of those trips. That slog between Clarksburg and Frederick is absolutely life-shortening. On a much brighter note....I'm counting on you all getting a lot more snow in McHenry, so PLZ post some good snowy pics tomorrow/Sunday!

You have a chance to set regional records in a SUPER competitive sport tomorrow...something that dozens of folks your age would kill for. Perspective is key. The weather is fickle, especially in the DMV. There are too many folks to name in this sub who (nearly) allow the balance of their existence/mental state to hinge on whether they verify winter wx advisory criteria for EVERY. SINGLE. WINTER. THREAT. And they're perpetually unhappy, December-March. Don't be that guy. Unless you elect to move to upper NY state and points north in a few years, you WILL feel cheated by winter every effing year for the rest of your life. Seriously...do NOT let the potential threat of blizzard conditions tomorrow in THIS area, mess with your competitive juju in PA.

For most recent winters, I've taken your tack: 1. Digital, or real, snow forecasted. 2. Fails to materialize, in almost all real-world cases here in the NoVA 'burbs to S/E of I-95. 3. When the (insert frozen precip) fails to materialize here, I look in my fridge for one of my most hi-test IPAs (like @Scraff typically keeps HIS fridge stocked with), pop that sucker open, and throw it back while reading the reports of N/W frozen precip. 4. SCORE. So, our experience in this part of the world was much like yours this season. I said in the days immediately following 1/3/2022 -- when we received just shy of a foot of snow -- that I wouldn't bitch about the rest of this winter, and I think I've been true to that. That 1/3 snow lasted a good while here, too, and it was generally cold well into mid-late February, too. I'm ready to move onto spring and severe season....but honestly, I can't personally complain about a bad 2021-22 winter at all here. Really, @CAPE, after this winter....I can totally believe that darker gray blob could possibly bring you up to an inch.
