  1. I remember you posting that and was roughly what had in mind thinking about Champlain lake effect. 18.6°/10.5° with .75" - 1" of new snow this morning. I had to go into the office and had almost forgotten that an inch of snow could make the roads somewhat crappy. Likely had to do with the temp crash below freezing overnight.
  2. Somewhat marginal here too. It all depends on how blocked the flow is.
  3. I thought last year was poor for retention. It seems like we had the snow but we had some melts that kept us from a really good pack. My unscientific, superstitious self always thinks winters come in packs. I remember how 2007 turned heading towards VDay and then 08 was good too. This seems like we are continuing on from last winter’s crap.
  4. I just find my grill uses too much gas when it's cold. I have a decent Weber only a couple of years old too.
  5. Anyone who rides needs frigid. Water crossing and ground need to freeze solid.
  6. Short lived here. Maybe a tenth but it was accompanied by some gusty winds.
  7. About 3” overnight and still snowing lightly. I guess we were on the southern edge of that axis PF pointed out. Back to a wintry look for a few days at least.
  8. I can only speak for myself but “losing it” should be taken in context. The context being a board dedicated to the enjoyment of weather. If and when I lose it, it will be in the context of these discussions not the rest of my life. It’s like talking about your football team going into battle or saying your favorite player is a warrior. It’s not literal. Like I said, maybe it’s just me but I don’t look at a bad run of the 18Z suite and then go kick my dog and yell at my wife and kid.
  9. Doesn’t that completely depend on where you live
  10. Will just threw his Commodore 64 out the window.
  11. Decided to set up the PWS off the corner of my deck using some brackets and a shelf. Bonus there is it’s a smooth, white board so it can double as a measuring board. It’s about 10’ above ground and about 10’ away from the house. Not optimal so I’ll likely mount it to a pole in the yard this summer. I think this location likely messes with wind direction and speed. Now I have to figure out how to hook it up to the WiFi and join Wunderground.
  12. Fiayuuuuhuh! Streams they are a risin!
  13. My wife got me a weather station for Christmas. Nothing fancy like a Davis just an Ambient WS-7078 but it will be more than good enough for my already decidedly unscientific observations. Amazingly, this is my first weather station. I’ve always been too cheap to buy one. I’m going to set it up today. I think I’m going to do it, at least temporarily, on my deck rail. It’s not the best place as it will be less than 10’ from the house and will be 12’-15’ above ground. I have a spot in the back yard that will be better but I want to clear some brush and a couple of small trees before I put it there. It will be interesting to see the comparison with KMPV which is on the opposite hill about 5 miles away.
  14. Yay, it’s snowing. Winter lives on, yada, yada, yada.
  15. If you measured with snowmaking, you’d average 750” a year
  16. Not only that but there is an entire month from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day that is packed with multiple holidays. At the very least, saying “happy holidays” is a time saver. I’ve never seen a problem with it.
  17. NYE won’t touch this because there is no snow left to melt. Even if there is more rain and higher winds/temps it won’t have near the psychological or visual impact.
  18. Wow, I’m not in a particularly good wind spot but gusts are shaking the house. We will still have snow cover after midnight so it goes down as a white Christmas, bittersweet but officially white nonetheless.
  19. Man that sucks. Hope it remains a mild case for you and your family. Get well soon.
  20. I took advantage of the snow we have before it goes away. Went down to Woodstock, which is unbelievably classic New England with snow and Christmas decorations up, and did a 60 mile snowmobile ride. Still lots of snow from there through Plymouth and down to Ludlow. Caught a couple of glimpses of Killington but none of Okemo while we were down there. At least we got to play in the snow for a little bit.
  21. That will happen when he combines subsume with Hadley Cell
  22. That's what my wife and son have. I may actually take tomorrow off and trailer south to the big snows and where some grooming has happened the last few days
  23. I think I'm going to take them out of the trailer this afternoon just to bomb around the yard a bit before the snow goes away.
