  1. I was just going to ask that. I’m not an experienced hiker but I can’t think of anything I’ve seen like that in this part of the country. Mansfield, Mt. Washington, the Presidentials you can see from the car or anything in VA or NC that I’ve driven through, are nothing like that. Anything in the Adirondacks?
  2. Yes, that is Katahdin. I wish the summit hadn’t been obscured.
  3. I have a friend who goes riding up in the Saguenay and he says it’s beautiful. I’ve done so little exploring in PQ other than Montreal. I’ve really have to do more
  4. I’m not sure what PQ is like past Jackman but it is a shocking change when you cross the border up in Pittsburg NH. You feel like your at end of the world, cross the border and look out over flat forest and farmland.
  5. I think he just jinxed it, no pun intended.
  6. I’m not sure. Moosehead remains to be checked on my Maine Must See list.
  7. This may sound a bit out there but it reminds me of pictures I’ve seen of Alaska. Denali shoots up out of lower surrounding land. Obviously a much grander scale and I’ve never been to Alaska but it feels a little like that.
  8. I wondered about that too. I haven’t found anything yet. It’s a more wildernessy feel here compared to the Mt. Washington area. Of course Baxter State Park is like 200,000 acres of wilderness and there are no ski areas anywhere nearby.
  9. My son only turned on his ride tracking app halfway through our ride today after we had gone around it on what they call the Tote Road. From Matagamon Wilderness Camps back to Millinocket, the highest elevation we saw something like 985’. I’m sure it was somewhat higher earlier in the ride but I don’t know if we ever got to 1500’. That means Katahdin shoots up 4000’ from the surrounding area. It looms over you at times. Really beautiful area.
  10. I was thinking almost the same. Mansfield from Burlington has the same, nothing else in the way so it’s pretty impressive too but the extra 1000’ or so on Katahdin kicks it up a notch. I’m sure PF or JSpin have a shot from that angle.
  11. Spending some time in Maine.
  12. Katahdin was obscured in clouds today but still pretty awesome.
  13. I’ve found the corporate world just isn’t designed for places like ours either. Member owned, lots of volunteer hours to keep things going. Golfer numbers dropping and most of those just want to pay a fee and play. They don’t want to be involved beyond that.
  14. The golf industry is tough. In much of the country it’s been overbuilt and the number of golfers has been dropping. High end courses so well but many are real estate ventures where the course is an amenity. This article talks about it. https://www.turfnet.com/news.html/tough-times-are-taking-the-fun-and-memories-out-of-golf-r834/
  15. You could get ours for less than $400k. It’s a bargain!
  16. It’s slow going with the snowmobile trailer. I’m a timid tower and feel like every bump is going to cause the trailer to come unhitched. And some of those roads have a lot of bumps.
  17. Demographics and a 10 year hangover from tropical storm Irene. We had to borrow over $200k to repair from the floods and the debt service is eating us alive. We are a member owned 9 hole course and the golf business is tough enough when you only have 6 months per year at most to make your money.
  18. We used our stoppage allowance at P&H Truckstop in Wells River, VT. They make a good omelette and bake killer bread. 6 hours on the road after that.
  19. We starting to pick up a nice following in Atlantic Canada. Nice recruiting Hazy and Nick!
  20. Somewhere, way back in some November thread, that I’m way too lazy to search for, is my regular post citing my fear of the rubber band snapping back hard after such a cold start, ala 1989. As usual, I had no scientific reason but even a broke clock is right twice a day for the wrong reasons.
  21. I’m just looking to keep the course I’m president of out of bankruptcy.
  22. Drove across NNE today to Millinocket, ME. The thin snowcover was noticeable through the Whites and western Maine. I have more snow at my house than much of that area. Bethlehem and Twin Mt. in NH wasn’t good at all. It was a little better through. Berlin and Gorham, NH. From Bethel, ME until north of Bangor it was thin to at time just about bare. Dryslot looks to be in a snow desert just about. Looks like good coverage here though.
  23. Good luck with temps like this posted on BTV's page this morning!
