  1. Sure is. I was just out heavily watering my parched flower beds (no, I do not expect any rain this weekend). Not only very muggy but very buggy too. Damn these invasive mosquitoes that bite all day and the ticks! I just got finished with 31 days of strong antibiotics because of one of those darn things (Lyme infection). But fall is coming! Football and good weather!
  2. August 10: 0.00 August 11: 0.00 August 12: 0.00 August 13: 0.00 And no chance of rain for a very long time coming up.
  3. Big thunderstorm a few miles south in Gaithersburg/Rockville, and more to the north. Shut out again for the fourth straight day.
  4. I think so. On the positive side we went into the Fri-Mon period thinking it was gonna be a washout except Friday. Turned out to be a pretty nice weekend and sun's coming out now. Wow has SE PA been getting killed though! Many counties under FF warnings again for up to 4" so far and raining hard. Glad that is not us; I just want 0.5-0.75 for the grass and gardens.
  5. Ha another flash flood watch for today - I think that's the third in the last few days. And I smell another shutout.
  6. Man parts of southern MD that got nailed by heavy rain last night (Prince Frederick) might get it again.
  7. LOL thunderstorm died out moving in from west, now a new one forming 5 miles east. Germantown is back!
  8. Looking more like no rain at all for me this weekend. I've got plants and flowers starting to droop so I'm going to have to do some serious watering today.
  9. I can't remember the last time the lawn was so green in mid-August! Glad to see a little sun this morning though. Jeb, that area of Texas you're moving to isn't as dry as I thought -- about 34" of rainfall a year compared to 41" for the DC area. But the temps! Average of 118 days at or above 90, and 18 at/above 100. But I know some people that moved to that area and love it.
  10. Oh so close! I'm in NE DC just down the street from Union Station, and am missing this warned thunderstorm by maybe five miles. I can hear lots of thunder though.
  11. Another 1.15 overnight, 2.5 for August. Looks like we finally get a break starting today. Can't believe that I need my outside potted plants to dry out in August!
  12. That is unreal. The rainfall map of the last 30 days has some 2-inch totals south of the Lake Anna area, with 10-15 inch plus amounts not far to the N and NE.
  13. Man Charlottesville has been taking a beating! NPZ: your rain shadow is like those desert micro-climates in Hawaii where there are lush, rain-soaked hills a few miles away.
  14. Nice thunderstorm last night with 0.4 and lots of close lightning. That was the first real thunderstorm I've seen this spring/summer. It was nice to turn off the lights and just watch.
  15. Main road out of Sandbridge Beach to get to the VA Beach area is still closed so we are stuck for now. They did say that people could cut through a military base to get out but they probably want a better reason than beer runs, etc. LOL. I wish we'd clear out so we could get some beach time and maybe get a thunderstorm. All I've seen is rain with no lightning. No fun in that! Although we can't take any wind with how soaked the ground is.
  16. Near VA Beach -- we did luck out with a nice day on Sunday, and decent yesterday. But, our luck has run out with steady rain and looking like no break today. Roads around here are flooded. Gonna be board games and beer today LOL.
  17. OK is is absolutely POURING in Sandbridge Beach (few miles S of VA Beach) and has been for hours. We went out last night and the two-way road leading to the beach had lots of areas of standing water and it wasn't even raining yesterday afternoon/evening. People's yards on both sides had water almost up to their front doors. I can only imagine what that road looks like now. Yeah uh we're not going anywhere for a while.
  18. OK our luck in VA Beach has run out as we have a loooooong river of mod/hvy rain training right over us that looks to last all day. My parents in Calvert have water coming into the finished basement due to a clogged gutter. They fixed the gutter but the damage is done. Hopefully not too bad.
  19. Man we lucked into a gorgeous day south of VA Beach -- full sun. My folks in Calvert said that they've never seen so much water washing over the driveway as in that big storm around 3 PM. I see another t-storm rolled through Germantown a while ago. Yikes. We have two people flying from BWI to ORF scheduled to take off at 2:55, but are sitting on the plane at the gate waiting to be cleared. And now we have big storms developing around Norfolk.
  20. Thanks for posting the amounts for Germantown. I can't believe I missed this event by a day! We left yesterday morning for VA Beach -- had some heavy rain, especially around Williamsburg, but nothing like up there.
  21. Just arrived in Virginia beach after driving through torrential rain for half the day. It is raining sideways here with winds gusting to 40 mph. Looks like a tropical storm!
  22. I know right? After weeks of dry and sun we get a pattern like this for VA Beach. As for adding insult, here at home in Germantown we'll get between 0.00 and 0.3 for the whole week.
  23. I was hoping for some thunderstorms while at VA Beach next week since I don't get them at home but, uh, careful what you wish for?
  24. Good looking, severe warned t-storm was heading right for my dusty, cracked yard around 9 PM last night, but rapidly split and went poof literally a couple miles away. Ended up with just 0.2 for the day, and sitting at a whopping 0.5 for the whole month.
  25. Finally getting a thunderstorm!......at work in NE DC. Decent lightning/thunder and very dark. Not much wind. At home of course was another whiff.
