  1. Winds still at 70mph 11:00 PM EDT Fri Sep 22Location: 33.6°N 76.8°WMoving: NNW at 12 mphMin pressure: 984 mbMax sustained: 70 mph
  2. No change on the 8pm advisory. 8:00 PM EDT Fri Sep 22Location: 33.3°N 76.6°WMoving: NNW at 12 mphMin pressure: 984 mbMax sustained: 70 mph
  3. Ophelia is right over the gulf stream right now. Water will not get any warmer than that for this time of year for where it is at.
  4. Is Lee already losing its tropical characteristics? I didn't think this would happen until it got further north.
  5. Water vapor loop. Looks like Lee has some dry air entrained, and the eye has opened up. Lee no longer a major hurricane, it is a CAT 2 with 105mph top measured winds. Pressure still around that 950-952mb mark, but it is spreading out getting larger, causing less of a pressure gradient, and winds dropping a bit. Still very dangerous.
  6. A NOAA, and AF flight are both in Lee right now. We should be getting fresh data soon.
  7. 953mb on first pass by hurricane hunters, AF309, up a tick from last NHC report.
  8. Does anyone have the flight data to see if the eye of Lee is open or closed? Image courtesy of Tropical Tidbits
  9. Next new moon is on Sept 14th, so the tides will be coming down from the astronomical high by the 16th. If it is a little slower, even better in that regard.
  10. I think the NWS wants to get closer in to buy the hook west. Plus with the extra weather balloons they are sending up they will get a clearer look at the upper level winds, conditions.
  11. At the far edge of the HWRF range, but it has it far out to sea at hour 126.
  12. The RGB water vapor shows the ingested dry air really well, plus still has shear on the SW side.
  13. 11:00 PM AST Sat Sep 9Location: 21.0°N 59.9°WMoving: WNW at 9 mphMin pressure: 962 mbMax sustained: 105 mph
  14. On three passes thru the center, NOAA recon flight got 2 readings of 962 and one of 961. So any intensification is not showing up yet on the central pressure.
  15. 11:00 PM AST Fri Sep 8Location: 19.3°N 56.5°WMoving: WNW at 13 mphMin pressure: 963 mbMax sustained: 115 mph
  16. Probably just delayed reaction to getting better organized. Maybe we will see something on the 3rd pass thru the eye.
  17. -Where the green barbs are at, the flight was looping back to try to get to the center
  18. The AF recon found 966 on the 2nd pass, but I think they missed the center. They were off course, tried to correct it, but still missed. Will wait for the 3rd pass.
  19. Finally got a reading from the 2nd pass of the recon plane. 960, up from 958 on the first pass.
