  1. Heh, look out the front window of your office, see that hill about a mile away? I'm just about at the top of it. It can be "interesting" going up and down when it gets slick.
  2. I dunno what to do with tomorrow. I have a cardiologist appt at 1 that I've been waiting 5 months for and the next availability is late March. I don't mind driving in shit weather all that much but most people are stupid and I can't have one of them take me out and ruin the only good car we have right now (that we just bought last month). I'm hoping the doc decides he doesn't want to travel either. NWS still has a couple tenths of ice here with temps in the low 20s by lunchtime.
  3. January and Feb 2019, back to back ice storms, Feb 2021 two also and many other years were similar but my faulty brain is coming up empty.
  4. ^^ Too often. Over the last 10 or so years we've had at least one or two per year.
  5. 50° in Cortland Manor (Peekskill) right now. Not liking the model trends at all. I really hope the place my daughter works closes Friday otherwise I have to drive her and she opens at 6:30am.
  6. North of 287 is the hinterlands dude. It's awfully presumptuous of us to think we matter, just ask all the people from Brooklyn that I used to work with. They told me pretty much every day
  7. This is crazy, the temps here on the hills are 8 to 15 degrees higher than the surrounding low spots. I'm at 16, further up is 18 and down in the hollows it's 3-8.
  8. I remember an ice storm in the early 70s in Oceanside where I could sit down outside our front door and slide all the way down the driveway into the street. The poor dog couldn't stay still to poop without sliding and falling over. Where did you live in town?
  9. You obviously don't live where it's hilly.
  10. No ice please As to the frozen lakes question - The open expanse that is likely to be surrounded by hills may promote some air movement leading to slightly higher temps.
  11. Pretty classic radiating going on out there. I'm at ~9°, .5 miles and about 300 feet up the hill it's 13 and .5 miles and 250 feet down it's 0/-1.
  12. As cold as it has been there are a surprising number of unfrozen reservoirs around here.
  13. 16° and the roads are wet. That's gotta be good for the car
  14. No it's like that last 40+ gust that scoured everything soft off all exposed areas. The wind is crazy. The snow is blowing every which way including up.
  15. I'm not too far into NY west of Danbury and I'm mostly getting 5+ but the wind is beating it up. I think it should be called @ 6".
  16. That actually backed up a bit further than it looked on radar before it pulled out. I got a pretty hardcore burst from about 11:30-12:15 and now the wind is howling out of the N as this thing moves out. The roads are like we got double (or more) the amount due to wind but even more so due to show fkn cold it is. It's gotta be 6" here but most measurements I was able to take are around 5 because of the wind.
  17. That was an absolute mess even on LI. I was working in Little Neck and had parked up the hill that morning because I could stick my Jeep in a snowbank and have easy parking. I had to crawl up the hill to get to it and when I touched it the slide began. I literally jumped in, started it and threw it in reverse to spin it. It finally bounced to a stop 5 feet from sliding into Northern Blvd traffic.
  18. I'm comfortable with calling it 5" but most measurements were closer to 4 with a wind beaten surface. Some of those bands have been really prolific producers, the wind changes to the E and the flakes get big for 5-10 minutes then the wind goes back to the north and the fractured flakes are back. 8° sux to shovel in but at least this super dense stuff isn't terribly heavy because it's so cold.
  19. 14°, not too windy and snowing hard. I'll take it.
  20. That curly line stops a few blocks south of my backyard Someone give it a little kick for me would ya 14° with moderate snow and light N wind between 6-10mph. Looks to be about 3" so far.
